Charlie's heart did its usual little flutter in his chest at the sight of the tall blonde's smiling face approaching him."Oh thank fuck..." Charlie trailed off as he started weaving around people to get to Nick. He didn't stop as he reached his best friend; instead he ploughed straight into him, bracing his drink to his body with both hands and dropping his head onto Nick's firm chest, inhaling his comforting scent.
"Hey." Nick spoke softly, his smile evident in his voice. "You OK?"
Charlie nodded against him.
Nick chuckled quietly and then wrapped both arms around his back and pulled him close, slightly squashing the cup in Charlie's hands.
He took another deep breath and then stepped back, his face breaking into a grin as he looked up into warm honey brown eyes that were crinkled around the edges.
"Hi." Charlie smiled.
"Hi." Nick grinned. "I've been loo—"
"Looking for me, yeah, everyone told me!" He huffed exasperatedly, but he was still smiling as he rolled his eyes.
To his surprise, Nick blushed and rubbed the back of his neck, something he usually only did when nervous. The sight made Charlie's heart speed up in his chest.
Feeling suddenly flustered for reasons he couldn't quite place, Charlie took a large swig of his drink, then he grabbed Nick's hand and started dragging the taller boy further into the crowd, towards the makeshift dance floor on the other side of the room.
"Come on, let's dance," Charlie shouted without looking back over his shoulder. Nick had been following him willingly up until these words, but he suddenly stopped and Charlie had no choice but to stop with him.
Or let go of his hand. But that didn't really seem like an option.
Charlie turned to look at Nick with raised eyebrows as he tried, and failed, to tug his best friend towards the dancers.
"Char, I'm driving, remember!" Nick protested.
Charlie frowned. "And?" he questioned.
"So, I'm not drinking!"
Charlie didn't say anything, he just stared back imploringly.
"I can't... You know I'm not good at dancing!" Nick whined.
"Please?" Charlie pouted.
Nick just looked back at him, his nose scrunched up adorably as they stood, hands still linked, in the crowded room in some sort of stalemate stare off.
Charlie dropped the pout and started to open his mouth to explain he wasn't anywhere near drunk enough either, but he desperately needed to get away from people and lose himself in the music and the rhythm (and the way being close to Nick made him feel) for a while. To be where people would stop pestering him.
However before he could form the words, Nick sighed and squeezed his hand. "Come on then." Nick rolled his eyes affectionately and started walking forward again.
