Chapter Text
Hi! My name is Sam. I love long walks, hiking, butterflies, snow, running, and adventure, my absolute favorite thing is spending time with my two favorite people that have ever lived, my two dads. Everything is perfect when they're around. It's scary when they leave sometimes, but they always come back, even when it doesn't feel like they will.

Every night, I sleep with them. They got me my own bed but I didn't like it. I missed them soooo much. Finally, my daddy Charlie noticed how lonely I was and now I get to sleep right next to him and Papa Nick every single night. Well, almost every night...sometimes I hear them breathing heavy and making noise and they make me stay in the living room even though they know it makes me sad. But sometimes they open the door if I scratch at it. And they let me in after they're done breathing. I don't know what they do, but they seem so tired and smell funny after. I wish they wouldn't close the door on me in the first place.

My dads get me things all the time that I don't want. Sometimes they come home with things that squeak and they throw them. I don't know what I'm supposed to do. But it seems to make them sad when they throw the ball. I don't know why they keep trying.

Every morning, Daddy Charlie lets me into the back garden. Every morning, I sniff into the grass looking for something interesting I can roll around in. After I finish my patrol of the garden to check for intruders or any new smells, I sit at the fence to watch the street. Sometimes people walk by and give me smiles or pets. I love it when that happens.

But, when another dog passes by, I don't like it one bit. What if they tried to come into MY garden or be mean to my dads? I don't trust other dogs, not at all. And as the head Good Boy of the garden it's my job to make sure everyone stays safe. So when another dog passes by I make sure they know that I mean business. I bare my teeth, growl, and sometimes even do my biggest bark. Which is hard, it makes my chest rattle, and sometimes my throat is sore. But it's worth it to keep my dads safe.

A couple of times, I found a hole in the fence, and I made my way out of the garden to chase the intruders away. Papa Nick was so upset when he found me, he cried and cried and hugged me and kissed my head over and over and that night when I cuddled them in bed Daddy Charlie did the same. It was nice. After that, they patched all the holes in the fence. I can't chase the intruders away any more but that's okay, I think my bark is pretty impressive.
