"If Spencer doesn't get better, and she doesn't get out of Radley, you're gonna wish you broke your neck when you fell off that cliff." -Aria MontgomeryIsabel, Aria, Hanna, and Emily were in school the next day. Turns out, missing three weeks of school did a number to Isabel's grade. Now she had to work extra hard to bring it back up whilst dealing with her terrible depression.
"I was hoping she'd be here, but she isn't," Emily sighed, talking about Spencer. She was still MIA, not at school or responding to texts.
"Do you think Spencer just didn't get your SOS?" Aria frowned, leaning back against a pillar.
"Maybe, but she must have gotten one of the other twelve messages we sent," Emily scoffed.
"You guys, Toby literally dumped her for 'A', give her some space," Isabel huffed, crossing her arms. "You understand when... when it's me." She looked down, her eyes threatening to fill with tears once again.
"Yeah, you guys, she has ditched school before," Hanna nodded, putting an arm around Isabel. "All right? It's not a big deal."
"Yeah, you're right, I guess," Aria agreed.
"Okay, we just need to get through today," Isabel added, taking a deep breath to compose herself.
Emily nodded at her. "If she doesn't call or show up, we'll go to her house after school."
The bell rang, and they started off, Isabel already dreading math, when Principal Hackett and... Melissa? walked up to them.
"Girls, good, you're all together," he said. Isabel looked at Melissa, who seemed extremely worried, and her heart sank. So Spencer wasn't at home either. Where the hell was she? To be honest, if she fled, Isabel wouldn't blame her... "I think you know Spencer's sister, Melissa-"
"Have you seen Spencer? Have you talked to her?" Melissa gulped, looking between each of them.
"Not today," Emily replied nervously.
"Is something wrong?" Aria added.
Melissa took a deep breath before answering. "Spencer didn't come home last night. She's not answering her phone. I was hoping she was here with you. Which is why I came here before I went to the police."
"Police?" Hanna blinked.
"I understand Spencer's been a little 'distracted' lately," Mr. Hackett said. "Was there something on her mind that she shared with you? Anything about her plans?"
"No, Mr. Hackett, um... She hasn't said anything to us," Isabel responded.
"You're her friends. She must have said something," Melissa scoffed. She looked at each of them in turn for an answer, but they were silent.
