Me and vinnie were sitting on the couch laughing and talking as the tv played in the background. We were only in our early 30s and had our 16 years old daughter Nicole at 19, only a few months after we got married i got pregnant with her.
She came home from school, and before we could process anything, she rested her head on my lap and her legs over vinnies, sobbing. Our faces immediately fall seeing her like this. "Baby what happened?" I asked, stroking her hair.
"He broke up with me.." she mumbled into my leg. She met this boy when she was 14 and started to date him. They lasted two years together, her first love, first kiss, first date, first everything.
"Im so sorry.." I rubbed her arm, holding her as close to me as I can. "He cheated.. that's why he left." She got up and sat in between us. "Im sorry.. he doesn't deserve you. It's gonna get better i promise baby." I assured, kissing her forehead.
"How?" She tried to catch her breath. "Breakups happen, sometimes it's for the best. It hurts now, but you'll look back and realize how much happier you are." Vinnie said, moving hair out of her face. She turned and looked at me.
"Did daddy break your heart?" She wiped her tears. "Daddy did break my heart.. I was your age when he did too."
"How did you move on?"
I exhaled deeply, looking back on those memories. "I didn't. I cried and cried for months.." I moved her hair back that was sticking to her face from crying so much. "But he ended it because we weren't ready. And I didn't want to accept that.. your daddy was my first love." I saw him smile from behind, and he never knew any of this.
"What brought him back?"
"Time, baby. I never called or begged. I waited and he eventually came back. Just remember, mija, if it's meant to be, he'll come back."
She nodded and i kissed her forehead.
"I think I'm just gonna go for a cruise." She sniffled. "You guys wanna come with me? I wouldn't mind some company. Maybe we can go out to eat after."
"We'd love to."
