"Mommy, please read my favorite story..." Sabi pa ni Coleen kay Lara nang mga sandaling iyon. Ito ang madalas na request nito kapag matutulog na ito.

"Fine, sige...babasahin ko na." Lara cleared her throat that time.

"Long time ago and far, far away an old woman was sitting in her rocking chair thinking how happy she would be if she had a child. Then, she heard a knock at the door and opened it. A lady was standing there and she  said, "If you let me in, I will grant you a wish." The old woman let the woman in firstly because she felt pity, secondly because she knew what she'd wish for...a child. After she washed the lady up and fed her, she saw that she was really beautiful."

"The lady slept soundly all night long and then right before she left, she said, "Now, about your wish. What do you want?"

"The lady thought about most people's wishes to be richest in the world, most powerful  person, the smartest,  and the prettiest. But the old woman wished for something the lady could not believe. She said, "I would like a child." 

"What did you say?" she asked because she was astonished at what the old lady asked for. The old lady repeated what she said. "I would like a child." 

"The lady then placed a tiny seed in the old woman's hand and gave her instructions. " Plant this seed, water it carefully, watch over it, and give it  your love. If you do all those things, then you will have a child." 

"So the old woman did all of those things the lady had told her to. In a week, there was a beautiful yellow flower in place of the seed. The next day, the flower bloomed. Inside the flower was a beautiful little girl who was the size  of the woman's thumb so she a called her Thumbellina. She made her a little dress out of golden threads. Thumbellina slept in a walnut shell and brought the old woman joy and happiness."

"But, one day when Thumbellina went down for her nap, a frog hopped through the open window and said, "You will be a perfect bride  for my son," and she took Thumbellina to a lily pad and hopped off to find her son."

Manghang-mangha si Coleen habang nakikinig sa mommy niya that time.

"Thumbellina cried and some little guppies heard her and chewed the roots off the lily pad to help her escape.  Thumbellina's lily pad floated away. A few hours later, she finally stopped floating. During the summer, she ate berries and drank the dew off the leaves. But then  winter came and she needed shelter. A kindly mouse let  her stay with it, but it said, "You'll have to marry my friend, Mole, because I cannot keep you for another winter." Lara caught a cough saka uminom ng tubig mula sa bedside table nila.

"Please proceed mommy."

"Alright."

"The next day she went to see Mole. In one of tunnels, she found a sick bird and said, "Poor thing, I will bury it." Then she found out that it was still alive and she cared for it until was ready to fly. It flew off. That fall she nearly had to marry  Mole. But then she heard a familiar tweet and an idea popped up in the bird's head."

"You can come down to the warm country,"  said the bird, so Thumbellina hopped on the bird's back and flew to the warm country. The people there who were like her renamed her Erin. She married a prince and she lived happily ever after."

Nang matapos si Lara ay pumalakapak pa ito dahil sa tuwa.

"I really like it, mommy."

"Okey, baby. Time to sleep now." Sabi pa ni Lara sa paslit.

"Okey."

"Kiss mommy."

Agad na humalik ang bata sa pisngi nito.

Nang matapos ay humiga na ito saka naglagay ng kumot.

Iyon ang madalas scenario ni Lara for long three years now, mag-aapat na taon na ito, at hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa rin niya masagot ang tanong nito kung nasaan ang daddy nito.

Nagbalik sa gunita si Lara sa mga oras na iyon. Nakatingin pa rin siya kay Coleen that time.

Nagdadalawang-isip pa rin siya na sabihin kay Leon na may anak silang dalawa. Hindi niya gustong magkaroon pa sila ng koneksyon, at gusto niyang masolo ang bata. Sinabi niya sa sarili niya na hinding-hindi siya hahabol kay Leon.

Tama na ang nakaraan. 

It is over.

Ilang sandali pa'y hindi niya namalayan na umiiyak na pala siya. Hindi man niya aminin pero mayroong pagsisisi ang nararamdaman niya sa t'wing naiisip niyang lalaki si Coleen na walang kinikilalang ama.

Hindi niya napansin na nagising pala ito.

"Mommy? Why are you crying?"

"No baby, mommy is not crying." Mabilis na pinunasan niya ang luha niya.

"Hmm, you're lying."

"No. Mommy is just sleepy, baby."

"Come on, sleep now mommy, it's late."

"Yes, baby."

"Just hug me, mommy."

"Alright, baby. Here..." mahigpit niyang niyakap ang anak niya at noo't magkatabi silang natulog.

Kung mayroon man na lugar ang pinakapaborito niya, iyon ay ang bisig ng kaniyang anak. Iyon ang safe place niya among the rest.

Here, pwede siyang maging siya, nothing lies, no pretending, no comparison...just her and her daughter.

"I love you, baby."

"I love you more, mommy."

Sa sandaling iyon ay kapwa silang nakatulog na dalawa.

Sa kabilang banda ay nasa club si Leon at noo'y umiinom ng alak. Hindi niya mawaglit sa isipan niya si Lara. Malalim ang iniisip niya nang may kung sinong lumapit sa kaniya at naglagay ng isang bote ng alak.

Napatingin siya sa gilid at doo'y nakita ang matalik niyang kaibigan.

"Dude!"

"Dude! Long time no see!" sagot ni Adam na agad siyang niyakap at tinapik ang balikat.

"Ang tagal na nating hindi nagkita ah!"

"Oo nga e, ilang taon na nga? Mag-aapat na ba?"

"Oo, it's almost four years!"

"Wow, ang tagal na nga..."

"So, kamusta kayo ni Alana, kayo pa rin ba?"

Umiling si Adam. "No, matagal na kaming wala, I choose to set her free, ayokong hawakan siya, marami pa siyang plano sa buhay."

"Wow, you talk different now, Adam. Ibang-iba ka na..."

"Well, time thought me that..." sagot naman ni Adam.

Natawa silang dalawa.

"Eh ikaw, kamusta? malaki na ba ang anak ninyo ni Lara?"

"Huh? What? did you say?" nagulat na tanong ni Leon kay Adam.

"Ha? what? are you telling me na hindi mo alam na buntis si Lara noon?"

"No." Umiling si Leon that time.

"Dude, sinabi sa akin ni Alana na ikaw ang ama ng binubuntis ni Lara that time...halos magkasunod lang na nabuntis si Lara at Veronica...hindi mo ba alam 'yon?"

Mas naguluhan si Leon sa oras na iyon.

Kung ganoon, may anak pala siya. Totoong anak niya...at iyon ay ang anak nilang dalawa ni Lara.

"I should see her!" bulalas ni Leon.

"You must, dude!" natatawang iling ni Adam.

Kung hindi pa dahil kay Adam ay hindi niya malalaman na matagal na siyang tatay. At malakas ang kutob niya na tinatago ni Lara ang anak nila.
