The call began quietly. A soft, somewhat raspy voice spoke to you from the phone speaker.

"Hello, friend. I missed you." Said the voice of Aventurine, having lost its usual, flirtatious tone.
Your response followed quickly. "I missed you too," you began. "I'm so sorry for what you went through."

He didn't reply. You heard a brief, choked breath as it seemed he was exhaling. Aventurine's voice slowly replied. "..thank you." He murmured.

You felt hopeless. All you could do was sit there, in the train car of the Astral Express, listening to Aventurine fight back his emotions as they bubbled up. Slowly, you gathered your courage, speaking ever so gently to him. "It's okay, friend. I can hear you're struggling now, so just let it out. I'm listening."

It was an onslaught of sobs immediately after that. You could hear Aventurine's heartbreaking cry as he broke down, his voice cracking and breaking as he apologized over and over again. Mixed into his panicked, heaved breaths and snivels, Aventurine gushed out pointed insults towards himself. You could hear him sniffling and struggling to console himself, wherever he was.
Your voice struggled to console him, but all he did was bawl. Aventurine's cracking voice begged you for comfort. He begged for help, but received nothing. Your gently spoken words did nothing against his forceful cries.
Aventurine's desperation resumed and escalated as he cried, not in whimpers and wails, but watery screams. You squeezed your eyes shut, Imagining Aventurine's hand desperately pressing his phone to his ear as he shook, desperate to hear words of reassurance. Years of anguish and suffering piled up on his heavy shoulders, causing him to shriek in pain.

"Aventurine," you began right when his screams ceased. "Take a deep breath. You're okay. I know it hurts." Your soft voice said.
As he heard this, Aventurine's desperation seemed to ebb away, but his sobs had not been sedated. He battled the urge to crumble, his eyes pouring tears as he listened to your voice, his hands trembling. "..I don't want to die." Croaked Aventurine.
"You won't die," you reassured him, your voice steeled with confidence. "I'm here. I'll keep you safe— you can let down your guard."

Aventurine cried and cried, sniffling and sobbing out apologies as he did so. He was completely useless against the weight of his burdens, and with an aching chest, he poured his entire burdens out to you. He revealed the most hideous, vulnerable sides of himself to you. You accepted them with warm and kind words, reassuring Aventurine with a soft voice. As you listened, you hummed back to him to acknowledge his words. He spilled everything. Every gruesome detail spilled from his lips, his breaking voice barely able to uphold against the strain.

You eyed the conductor as you listened, debating whether to request to return to Penacony for a few nights. "Aventurine," you began. "I'll be there in thirty minutes. Can I stay with you for a bit? I want to stay by you."
Aventurine sniffled. "No," he refused. "I don't want to inconvenience you."
You shook your head, although he couldn't see it. "It's not a problem. You're not in a good place right now. Let me help you, please." Your pleading voice seemed to get through to him.

"..fine." Huffed Aventurine. "Please, don't be disgusted."
You smiled. "I could never. See you then."
"Goodbye."

As the call ended, you charged up to the conductor, requesting a special warp jump to Penacony.
