Loona carried Balin into her bedroom as he finished his breakfast and sat him down on her bed.
"OK Balin, we'll be heading off for work in a little but," she said to him. "But first, I think we need to freshen you up a bit. Maybe... fix one little detail."
"Sure thing Loona." said Balin. "What is it?" Loona then framed the boy with her fingers and started tracing all around his body, sort of like a game of Pictionary.
"Ooh! Charades, I love this game!" he boomed with excitement. "OK, let's see, uh..." Loona was trying hard not to laugh as he tried guessing what she was. "Oh, I got it. Sexiness!" he guessed. Making Loona suddenly burst into a fit of laughter.
"No, silly!" she chuckled as she ruffled his hair. "Why don't you try to guess... something about you?"
"Oh, okay." he continued guessing as he cleared his throat. "A boy?" she shook her head every time he got it wrong. "A kid? A human? Oh, adorable!" he then froze with his eyes widened. "Wait, no, that can't be it." he thought to himself.
"Nah, you had it right the third time, kiddo. A human." Loona said. "Really?" Balin asked curiously.
"Yep, we're just gonna make one little change to that." "What do you mean?"
Loona then began explaining. "Well, you see Balin, humans aren't really supposed to know Hell exists, but that was only 'til I brought you here last night. And if you're gonna be staying with us for a while, the other demons can't know you're here either. No matter how cute and innocent you can be, someone will always want to pick up a fight where they don't want. So what we're gonna do is blend you in with the crowd. Maybe get you a little demon disguise. Sound cool?"
"Oh. That's... cool. I guess." Balin was feeling intrigued by the idea. But secretly he was a little worried.
"Hey, what's the matter? I think you'll look cool in that too." Loona said with a concerned smile.
"I know. It's just..." explained Balin. "Do you not want me to be cute and innocent?"
"What? Balin, what makes you wanna ask such a question?" Loona asked him with a nervous twitch of her tail.
"Well, I know I'm new to this life and I understand if this is how you wanna take care of me, it's just... sometimes, I just love to be cute and innocent. I don't want that to go away if I ever do make friends in this place."
Loona's ears then lowered hearing this kid feel worried like that. It was understandable, having been through a lot with what happened to his family and now being among a new one, even if only for the time being, It was even unlike Loona, as the only person she could ever count her feelings on was herself, and Blitzø when need be. Nonetheless, her promise was her promise.
"Hey..." she placed her paw onto Balin's shoulder. "I don't want you to think that, okay? I told you I love how humble you are. But I don't want you to feel as though you have to change and forget who you are, not even for me. Sure Hell and its demons may be scary, trust me, I've always been scared too. Disguise or no, cute or innocent, just know I lov... I...," she stuttered for a bit to find the words before she breathed, showed a smile, and finished her little speech saying:
"...I love you Balin. For exactly who you are."
Balin showed an emotionally heart-wrenched look on his face. He thought it may have been a little early to say those three words, but he knew with her smile that he needed to hear that.
"Thank you Loona. And... I love you too." he said. "Come here." she gently started stroking her friend's hair gently with her claws. "After all, there is a rainbow inside every demon, kiddo." she rolled her eyes with a chuckle. Soon, she stopped stroking and walked over to her closet.
