Selena Gomez, was the typical good girl. She got good grades, played sports and came from a very conservative family. Her family belonged to the conservative club, she lived in a nice six bedroom house in the suburbs. Her father was a professor and her mother stayed at home, she attended ladies lunches and went shopping with her friends.

Her life was so organised, her parents had even chosen her husband. This annoyed Selena, she wanted to get married because she fell in love, not because her parents thought that the man could provide for her. The man she was going to be marrying was called Justin, sure he was a nice guy but she just didn't feel fireworks, with him. There was no attraction. Her parents had married just for the fact that their families were friends, and both families thought it would be a good investment. She didn't want that, her parents were still together but she knew they were only together because they had a reputation to uphold.

Selena attended a private school, in East L.A. It was one of the most prestigious schools in the state. She wore a blue blouse, with a pastel colored kilt and black pumps. All girls had to have their hair back in a bun or pony table.

She walked into school on Friday morning, she met her best friend Taylor at the gate. "Hey" she smiled and hugged them "Hey Sel, how are you" Taylor asked "Bored, bored of this place"Selena said "Wow that's deep" Taylor said sarcastically "No i'm serious, Justin's coming round for dinner tomorrow night and I'm not looking forward to it, he always tries to touch my thigh and its really uncomfortable. It's just awkward" she said. "Well you are marrying the dude, so get used to it" Taylor said, Selena threw her a glare "Sorry, okay how bout you come with me to a party tonight" she said "I dunno Tay" Selena said "Please, Sel my friend is throwing it and it's gonna be so good" Taylor pleaded "Okay fine, where is it?" Selena asked "Other side of town" Taylor said nonchalantly "I've never been over the tracks before" Selena said "Really?" Taylor asked "Yeah I mean never seen the interest" she said "Well its rad. So different from here, everything's just so more laid back" Taylor said. "Wait how do you have friends from the other side of the track" Selena asked. "I talk to the guys at the country club, they mostly all live over that way" Taylor said, smiling and walked into the school. Selena followed "Okay but what am I gonna tell my parents" Selena asked "Tell them your staying at mine for the night" Taylor said. "Good plan" Selena smiled.

Selena was packing her bag in her room, she put in a pair of heels and a pair of leather trousers and white blouse. She put in her make up bag . Taylor was picking her up, they were going to hers and the off to the party. Taylor's parents were a lot laid back then most of the parents around, especially hers. She walked downstairs, her mother was nursing a martini "Mom, i'm going to Taylor's for a slumber party" she announced. Her mother looked over "Have you done your homework and you college applications" her mother asked "Uh yeah" Selena said "Very well  then, be back by tomorrow afternoon. Have a good time dear" her mother said. "Thanks mom" she said and walked out, to Taylor who was waiting for her.

The girls arrived at the party around nine pm. Taylor saw her friend Ed, who was getting beer out of his car "Hey Ed" she beamed and walked over to him with Selena in toe. "Hey Tay so glad you made it" he smiled and hugged her. "You too man, this is my friend Selena" she smiled "Hey Sel, I'm Ed" he smiled and gave her a hug. "Cmon i'll introduce you too my best friends" he smiled and they followed him down to the beach. He lead them to a circle of people, who were sat on the sand, on logs. "Guys, this is Taylor and Selena" he said and put the beer down "Taylor and Selena, this is Nick, Demi, Niall, Zayn, Perrie, Liam, Joe, Miley, Liam and Nathan. Sit down guys" he smiled to the girls. Selena sat on the end, next to Nathan. She couldn't deny he was gorgeous, with brown curly hair, and cute dimples. He wore a plain black v neck t-shirt, with a black baseball jacket and black jeans.

He looked over at her, damn she was gorgeous. He didn't know much about Taylor, but all he knew was that she was a cool girl and she was from the upper side of L.A, well she had to be cool because not many people who were members at the country club wanted to be friends with the staff. He looked over at Selena, it was obviously her first time around kids who weren't from the upper side. He leaned over "Would you like a drink?" he asked, she looked at him and nodded. He leaned behind him and grabbed her a bottle of beer, he handed it to her, he then handed her his bottle opener, she smiled thanking him. He looked over and saw her trying to open it, he smiled a little thinking it was cute. He leaned over "You've never opened a beer before?" he asked "Uh you got me" she smiled a little. "Here let me get it for you" he said and took the bottle and opener from her hands. "You put the claw under the lid and just pull" he smiled, he then opened it "Thanks Nathan" she said "You're welcome" he said, when giving it back to her, their hands brushed. Sparks flew, they both felt it and both turned away blushing, he picked his beer up and swigged it. He then gave her a quick wink. She smiled blushing. Taylor noticed from the corner of her eye, Nathan and Selena interacting, she had never seen her friend like that around a guy before. She smile a little, her friend obviously was crushing on him and she believed he was an awesome guy, Ed talked about him like he was the brother he never had.

After a while, Nathan leaned over to Selena "Guys i'm going for a smoke" Nathan said, getting a packet of cigarettes from his pocket, while getting up "You coming" he asked Selena "Uh" Selena looked at Taylor as she encouraged her to go "Sure" she smiled. "Cmon then" he smiled crookedly. She got up and they walked away together.

"Do you smoke" he asked "Uh no!" she said "You wanna try" he asked "No." she said "Okay, no worries babe" he said, giving her a wink. "So Selena, tell me about you" he said as he lit the cigarette. "Not much to tell" she said shrugging "Surely there's something" he said, giving her a smile and put the cigarette in his mouth. "Ya know that's really bad for you" she said "Who are you?  My mother" he joked "You close to your mom?" she asked "Woah, straight in with the deep questions there" he said "Your the one who brought your mom up" she said. He smiled and then, looked at the floor solemly "She passed away" he said. "OH my god i'm so sorry Nathan" she said. He looked up "Nah i'm kidding, I just wanted to see your reaction" he smirked "Oh my god, that's so horrible" she said, giving him a small nudge, pushing him over. He laughed a little "Nah me and my mom are cool, she's awesome she's worked hard to give me everything I need. My dad walked out when I was a little kid. She worked two jobs just to keep a roof above our head. There were times that we had hardly any food in the fridge. She was twenty when she had me, she worked her butt off just so I could have a life, you know. She's made me who I am today" Selena watched as Nathan spoke about his mother, he was really opening up to her "Which I hope is someone who makes her proud" he said giving her a gentle smiled "She sounds awesome" Selena said "Yeah she is, how bout you" he asked. "My parents are well....not like that, its like i can't do right from wrong with them. I always have to be this perfect girl and it kinda sucks, because I'm not. I just feel like they put way too much pressure on me" she said.

Nathan put out his cigarette, "Listen Selena, nobody can tell you aren't good enough. It's not their life. You do you, if you spend your life pleasing other people, who obviously aren't gonna be impressed then what's the point" he said. "I guess, i'm just not good enough for them" she said wiping her tears. He wiped the tears off her face "You're perfect" he whispered. She looked up at him, he gave her a crooked smile and wrapped his arms around her body keeping her warm. She held him and rocked in his arms as he kissed her head. "Hey look at me" he said. She looked up at him, he brushed a piece of hair off her face, "You gotta be you. Don't let anyone knock you down. Even your parents. You gotta make your own decisions" he said "How do you know so much bout me even though we've just met" she said "I don't, I just don't like anyone especially pretty girls like you.....not happy" he said. She looked up at him, he leaned down to her lips, she captured them softly. He kissed back. Finally she felt fireworks.
