So after listening to Piece By Piece by Kelly Clarkson, I thought I'd make a little one shot about it.

And all I remember is your back
Walking towards the airport, leaving us all in your past
I traveled fifteen hundred miles to see you
Begged you to want me, but you didn't want to

All Selena remembered of when her father left, was saying goodbye to him at the airport before he left to go and be with another woman. Years later, she had travelled fifteen hundred miles to Texas and yet he wanted nothing to do with her. She sipped her tea, as she opened her laptop trying to shake off the bad memory.

But piece by piece, he collected me
Up off the ground, where you abandoned things, yeah
Piece by piece he filled the holes that you burned in me
At six years old and you know, he never walks away
He never asks for money, he takes care of me
He loves me
Piece by piece, he restored my faith
That a man can be kind and a father could... stay

She smiled at the background on her laptop, it was of her and her husband with their daughter Maya. He had scooped their daughter up in his arms while kissed his wife's cheek. She loved him, with every bone in her body, when she first found out she was pregnant  she didn't believe that he was going to stick around. But he did, a year later they were married and raising Maya. He loved Maya unconditionally and she could see that everyday. Unlike her own father, he never asked her once for money, her own father gambled and drank and took money from her mother. Nathan would never do that. Nathan took care of her whenever she needed him too, when she was sad or had a bad day. He wrapped her up in his arms and assured her that everything would be okay. He then kissed her and told her she was his world.

And all of your words fall flat
I made something of myself and now you want to come back
But your love, it isn't free, it has to be earned
Back then I didn't have anything you needed so I was worthless

Selena had achieved her dreams, of owning her own fashion magazine, Nathan owned a bar and they lived a comfy lifestyle. Six months ago, Selena's father had come crawling back apologizing, now she was wealthy and successful he wanted to be in her life. She could see right through him, he was never around up until now because she was worthless, there was nothing off her he needed, until she became wealthy then he came looking for money.

Piece by piece I fell far from the tree
I will never leave her like you left me
And she will never have to wonder her worth
Because unlike you I'm going to put her first
And you know, he'll never walk away,
He'll never break her heart
He'll take care of things, he'll love her
And piece by piece, he'll restore my faith
That a man can be kind and a father should be great

When Selena held Maya in her arms for the first time, she didn't know how her father turned away. Her daughter was beautiful. She promised she would never leave and always put her first unlike her father. She also knew Nathan would do the same, he adored Maya and would never think about going anywhere. She was a daddy's girl and if she got home late at night, she would always fine Maya in bed with her husband. Him reading a book to their daughter and doing impressions of each character which would make Maya smile and giggle a little. After she had fallen asleep, Nathan would tuck her in and kiss her head. He would then leave the room silently. They would then spend the rest of the evening cuddling and talking about their day.

She knew for sure, that piece by piece Nathan had fixed her, he restored her faith in men and she knew he was an amazing man, that she was lucky to have in her life.
