It was so unlike him. Kaido wasn't one to fall in love, especially not with someone so sweet and kind like you. It made him grumpy, grumpier than usual anyway, and he was drinking heavily, which wasn't anything new.
He kept thinking back to when he first met you, just another person in Wano.. or you should have been. You were a small thing, and he had expected you to be trembling in his presence but instead, you greeted him with a warm smile, spoke to him as you would anyone. For a second even he was able to forget what a dull existence he lived. Despite what he had been putting you through, you treated him as if he was just another person passing through.
Surely this would have annoyed him, it would usually, but something about you, you just seemed so pure of heart. Someone like that, usually wouldn't pique his interest, but he found himself drawn to you. The way you seemed so gentle with not just him but everybody, he wanted all that to himself.
Even now just thinking about you he grumbled in his seat, slouching slightly as he took a huge swig of his sake. "Go get me some more" he ordered to nobody in particular. He didn't want to be reduced to some lovesick fool, that wasn't him. He wanted to keep a rational head on his shoulders and continue on with his plans, but at the same time he wondered what someone like you must think of him, did you hate being around him? Did you disapprove of his.. plans.
He knew since that first day he had found any excuse to see you again, even gaslit himself into believing it had to happen, it can't be helped. It's not him pulling the strings to see you again, it just has to be this way, because there's a job that only someone like you could do. Though he knew really he had manufactured a place for you in Wano, and that this so called job, wasn't really something he needed from you, nor wanted.
He had set up a new tea house, for you to run, an offer you couldn't refuse. This would take you from having nothing to suddenly a lavish life. All the food and water you needed, and even more.
Yet as the months went by Kaido noticed what you were doing. See he knew, because you're not selfish. You were sneaking things back to other towns where those people needed it. Kaido should have been red with anger, but, he just pretended he didn't know. After all, this was the part of you that seemed to draw him in.
As he downed more sake his thoughts wandered on, you plagued him. "A raise. She needs a raise" he mumbled drunkenly. "Go find our new tea house worker" he once again ordered to anyone who would take the demand. After waiting half an hour, he saw a familiar person come into frame. Somehow you looked even more beautiful every time he saw you.
He looked down at you from where he sat, and you looked up at him with a smile that he couldn't resist. He was half tempted to smile back, but he didn't. He had appearances to keep up right now, and so he started into some bull crap story about you needing a raise. You looked very grateful with each shitty explanation he gave.
He realised at this point he really would give any reason just to spend time with you.. he was down bad for the sweet girl he had bought out to work for him.
