Sabo
The air smelled warm, like dust and dry stone, softened by sun drenched moss. You were laying in the grass outside the HQ, arms stretched out at your sides, fingers brushing the edge of Sabo's.

Somewhere nearby, the revolutionaries were settling in for the evening, training winding down, voices low and tired, but outside, it felt like the world had slowed just for the two of you.

Sabo was laying beside you, coat spread beneath his back, one arm folded beneath his head. His hat rested a few feet away, abandoned, for once, the wind combed through this hair and his skin caught the last gold light of the day.

Neither of you had spoken in a while. You were used to the silence by now. It had been a month since Marineford. A month since Ace.

Sabo had remembered everything, painfully, all at once. You'd been there when he collapsed the first time, when the weight of years he'd forgotten came crashing down like a wave he hadn't seen coming.

You'd helped him through it, held him when he shook, caught his breath when he forgot how to breathe. You didn't try to fix it. You just stayed. Now, for the first time in weeks, he looked calm.

His fingers shifted in the grass, brushing yours. You turned your head slightly to look at him, expecting another sigh or a small remark about how the clouds looked like sea kings.

Instead, softly, he said, "I've been thinking... about having a family". Your breath caught. He wasn't looking at you. His gaze was on the sky, as if he hadn't just dropped the kind of sentence that could split someone open.

You sat up slightly, propping yourself on one elbow. "What?". Now he looked at you, really looked. His eyes were clear, golden in the fading sun. Sad, but not shattered. Hopeful maybe?

"I've been thinking about kids" he repeated, softer now. "About having one. With you". You blinked at him. "You want a kid".

"Yes. With you" he confirmed simply. "Not now, necessarily, but... eventually. Soon, maybe". You sat up more fully, brow furrowed. "Sabo... are you okay? Is this.. are you sure you're not just-?".

"Reacting to losing Ace?" he finished for you. He didn't sound offended. If anything, he sounded understanding. You nodded. "It's just, this feels fast. You've been grieving. Everything's still raw".

He sat up too, pulling his knees to his chest. "You're right. It is raw, and I'll probably always carry some part of that pain". He paused, then reached out and took your hand, firm and warm. "But I'm not asking this because I'm broken".

You met his gaze. He held it, steady and open. "I'm asking because after everything I've remembered, everything I've lost... you're the one thing I know for sure" he paused for a moment.
