Boruto paced the living room, his brows furrowed together and hand covering his mouth. A cold sweat ran down his forehead and he felt a shiver run down his spine.

"Would you please calm down? It's not that bad." Sarada rolled her eyes and continued to sip her coffee.

He stopped pacing and threw his hands up in the air. "How can I not be calm! Do you know what kind of reputation this guy has? And you invited him here?"

Sarada put her cup down on the center table and sighed. "Oh big deal, I befriended a murderer, you should be happy. Now if anyone makes me upset they can be killed."

Like a fish out of water, his eyes went wide as his mouth gaped open and close. "I–You–you can do that too, ya know?"

She shrugs again. "I know," she grinned and then continued, "but it's nice to know I can rely on someone else to do it for me, too."

Boruto pouted as he felt a sense of jealousy bubble up to his chest. He crossed his arms across his chest and huffed, "I could take care of someone for you too, ya know? All you have to do is ask."

"How romantic. I was just kidding." She rose from the couch and stood in front of him. "I'm not going to ask Mitsuki to kill someone for me. Papa said he was recommended to us for an extra hand, okay?" She leaned in closer to his face, a teasing smile on her face. "And I won't be asking you to hit anyone for me, either."

Boruto saw an opening and smirked. "Heh. As long as I can hit on you, then I'm fine."

Watching her cheeks turn pink to red made him grin. The way her eyes widened and

"Stop being so annoying!" She stomped away from him, and he could practically see the steam coming out of her ears.

Boruto laughed and let her leave him in the living room. As she slammed her door shut, slowly, his smiled melted and he looked at her discarded coffee cup. The corner was stained with her lipstick, and for a moment, he thought about how it would feel like to have her lips on his instead.

Their situation's complicated, and any romantic relationship would simply add to the complexity. For now, having her be his partner-in-crime would have to suffice. Although he did joke around a lot, he hoped one day he would be brave enough to really tell her how he felt. Or perhaps, one day she would understand his advances were not half-hearted.

Until that day came, he would have to be okay with this.
