CHAPTER 5: The Rake and the Diamond
"Oh, look. A Rake in its natural habitat." Chocho smirked.
Sarada looked over the gardens and spotted Lord Boruto Uzumaki, flirting up a storm with another lady. Her chest tightened by the smallest bit, lips pressed together. "I do not understand why you must always point him out, Chocho." Sarada rolled her eyes and took a sip of her tea. "His affairs do not interest me."
"You say that now, Sarada, yet I see how longingly you stare across the room when he dances with another." She picked up a scone and took a hefty bite. "It is you who I do not understand. A little bird told me that he has eyes for you and only you in the ton. If you were to marry him, you would not only be retaining your family's status, but you will be a duchess. Not a bad way of living, if you ask me."
"Marry him or not, I am still to be a duchess. It is not like my father will grant our lands to anyone else." She stole a glance towards Boruto's direction. He held the lady's hand in his own and brought it up to his lips for a chaste kiss. Sarada felt something bubble in the pit of her stomach. "I think I need to take a walk." She inhaled deeply before standing from her seat.
Chocho gave her a knowing look and a smug smile. "Away with you. God knows why you dally here with me when you could be entertaining suitors—a certain duke in particular."
"He is not a duke yet," Sarada bit back.
"My word!" Chocho laughed. "I did not name any names. Boruto has made a home for himself in your mind and he does not even know it."
"No one will know of it because it is a lie!" Sarada scowled in a way that was not befitting of a lady.
She took her leave and walked into the gardens. The fresh air and smell of roses overwhelmed her in the most delightful way. The grass crunched under her feet, thoughts lost in a cloud.
Dear reader,
It has come to this author's attention that Miss Sarada Uchiha has graced London with her presence for the season. It seems that Lord Sasuke and Lady Sakura Uchiha had finally thought it time to bring their one and only daughter down from Raven Hill and into the marriage market in the grand city.
Being the sole daughter and heir to the Uchiha clan easily makes Miss Uchiha the most sought-after diamond this season. Riches aside, let us not discount the lady for her wit and ravishing beauty. Why, I would certainly bet that it is her large, dark eyes and wit that caught a certain Rake's attention—none other than Lord Boruto Uzumaki.
Like all the Rakes, and gentlemen, the young lord seems to have taken a fancy to Miss Uchiha. Or perhaps he takes her as a challenge as she has declined not one, not two, not even three, but four proposals in the span of three weeks. It is with great interest and wisdom that Miss Uchiha takes her time, however, this author believes that she might be waiting for the most eligible bachelor to make a proposal. After all, an intelligent lady such as herself will not settle for low lying fruits. Despite his reputation, Lord Boruto Uzumaki is to inherit a dukedom such as herself.
A little butterfly has whispered to this author of Miss Uchiha's liking of tulips, and private walks in the garden with a most handsome gentleman. Their conversation seemed to have been in earnest rather than playful flirtation. This author can only guess a topic of such secrecy can only bring out intimacy. Or perhaps it is something they have come to know as children? But will this childhood bond come to blossom into a love match?
Only time will tell.
Lady Whistledown
"Miss Uchiha," a deep and suave voice called for her attention. "Or may I have the pleasure of calling you Sarada? It would delight me much should you refer to me by my first name."
