Thirty One

When I awoke the next morning, there was another text from Ronan.

Hey Vic, hope you're feeling ok? R Xxx

Damn! I realised that i'd forgotten to text him back after Dan had rung.

Hey, sorry I didn't text you back last night, Dan called me so I turned my phone off. Xx

I sent the message, and about a minute later the house phone rang, I heard Sophie pick it up downstairs.

Hello?"

"Oh hello you!"

"Yeah she's fine, I'll just get her for you now"

I heard her footsteps on the stairs, then she was knocking gently at my bedroom door, she obviously thought I was still asleep.

"Come in" I said, she handed me the phone,

"Ronan for you" she grinned.

I smiled "Hey"

"Vic are you ok? I just got your message"

"Oh Ro, I'm fine" I said, "it was just all a bit of a shock, I told him to get lost"

"Good girl" "What are you going to do today?"

"Um, lose my mind watching daytime TV?" I said miserably.

"Aw honey, I wish I could be there for you"

"So do I" I said.

"Listen, as soon as I get some time off, I'll come back and we'll do something together, I've gotta go now, got a ton of interviews to do today"

"Poor you" I said sympathetically.

"I'll call you as soon as I can"

"Ok, have a good day"

"You too, Bye love"

I ended the call in a state of disbelief. Ronan Keating had just called me 'Love'. Okay, so maybe it was just a term of endearment to him, but it sounded serious to me. I couldn't believe I was getting this excited about one man. I was behaving as if I was a teenager again.

But there was something special about him, he made me feel special too, I felt like I was falling in love with him.

I picked up the phone and dialled the number.

"Hello?"

"Hello Mum!"

"Hello darling how are you?"

"Surviving" I said.

I'd told her I'd fractured a bone when I'd spoken to her a couple of days ago, and had told her not to worry. I don't think she believed me, but for some reason she didn't interrogate me like she usually did.

"Mum?"

"Yes?"

"I think I've fallen in love"  Really?" she said excitedly, she was always trying to marry me off as soon as there was a potential suitor.

"With Dan?" she asked.

"Er no, I told you the other day, we're not together anymore"

"Oh yes sorry love" "well with who then?" she said impatiently.

"Ronan Keating" I blurted out.

She laughed at me "Vicky, you've been in love with him since you were fourteen!" "I'd have thought you'd have grown out of it by now!"

"Mum! I'm serious"

I proceeded to tell her how I'd met him one day at work and how he'd taken me out and come to see me. Carefully omitting the parts about Dan.

"Sounds like he likes you" she said, "does this mean I get a celebrity son in law?"

"Mum!!"

"I'm joking, BUT if you do love him, then don't let him go"

"I don't intend to" I said quietly.

We chatted for a little while longer about the weather and other stuff, "I'll speak to you soon Mum"

"Ok love, keep me posted"

"Very funny"

"Bye love"

"Bye mum" I smiled as I ended the call, almost as soon as I had the phone began to ring in my hand.
