The weeks that followed were a whirlwind of promotions, recordings and interviews. But I was loving every second of it.
Simon had been true to his word, and had me in the recording studio that Monday after the final show. My debut album was about a third finished and the single was due out next week. There were times when I felt like I was living somebody else's life.
I made most appearances on my own. One day I was sat having a few minutes to myself when I got a call from Simon. It was Radio One. Jo Whiley wanted to interview me and for me to do a live lounge performance, she said I could bring with me anyone that I wanted.
Her eyes were wide open with shock, when I walked into the studio with Ronan.
Somebody hasn't done their research I thought to myself...
She whispered something in her producers ear, who ran out of the studio and ran back in about ten minutes later with a big file full of papers.
Jo interviewed me live on air and then motioned for Ronan to come and sit in the studio with us.
"As you know, it's traditional to do the current single and then a cover in the live lounge"
"Now I know what your cover is...." she paused.
"What I want to know is, how does your boyfriend feel about it's new success?"
She turned to Ronan and laughed.
"Fiancé" he said.
Jo looked at my left hand, then back at Ronan and smiled.
"Did you just announce your engagement live on air?"
"Oh...er..yeah I guess I did" he said taking my hand.
"That's an amazing ring! So have you set the big day?"
Me and Ronan looked at each other and laughed.
"No, we've both been too busy" I said.
The rest of the interview flew by and we really enjoyed ourselves. Jo was lovely and made us feel right at home.
About a week or so later, me and Ro were lying in bed enjoying each others company when the phone rang.
I reached for it.
"Leave it babe" said Ronan, kissing my neck.
I'd already grabbed it. I looked at the display. "It's Simon" I groaned.
"Ah, you'd better answer it then"
"Hey Simon"
"Vicky, I hope you're listening to the radio?"
"Er...no"
I'd forgotten that the single was due to chart today. Ooops.
"Well I think you should"
"Oh ok..."
"Trust me on this"
I stepped out of bed and turned the radio on, just in time to hear Wes say live on Radio One, "we have a new number One this week, it's your X Factor winner, Vicky!"
"Oh my god!" I screamed down the phone at poor Simon.
Ronan heard the radio and had picked me up and was spinning me around.
"Vicky!"
"Sorry Simon.."
"Got a little excited here"
"Congratulations, you deserve it"
"Thank you"
"Well done babe" said Ronan.
I couldn't stop grinning.
