Vic
June 2004, London.
He picked up the phone almost straight away. "Hey sexy.."
"I got through!!!" I screamed at him.
"Aw. I knew you would, I'm so proud of you!"
"I've got to sing in front of all the judges next week"
"But I thought...?"
"No today was just producers and Jackie, Simon's P.A." I grinned.
"Ah, I see. You'll be fine babe"
"I miss you"
"I miss you too, but you'll be home soon"
I was staying in London for the auditions which was easier than stating with Sophie in Cardiff and travelling back and forth.
The morning after the first audition I'd just got out of bed when there was a knock at the door. I pulled some clothes on in a hurry and went to answer it. There was a member of hotel staff standing in the doorway with a package. "This came for you" said the man.
"Er, thanks..." I said.
Why would I be getting mail sent here? Nobody knew I was here apart from my mum and dad, Sophie and Ronan.
Ronan!
I took the package and shut the door. I sat down on the bed and opened it up, inside was a silver photo frame with a picture of me and Ronan on stage together.
It'd been engraved with the words...
Vicky's got the X Factor
I laughed. There was also a note.
Babe,
I am missing you like mad, here's a little something to remind you of me.
Good Luck (Although you don't need it)
Can't wait to see you soon.
Love Ronan xxx
I kissed the picture and placed it on the bedside table.
I was so nervous it was ridiculous. Stood in front of Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osborne, singing was one of the scariest things I'd ever done.
I finished the song and just stared at them all, unable to speak.
There was a long silence, then...
"Yes" said Simon simply.
"Yes" said Louis and winked at me. I had first met him about a month ago with Ronan.
"Definitely 100% yes" said Sharon.
I suddenly became aware of the film crew watching my every move. Still in shock I hugged each one of the judges and walked toward the door.
"Vicky" said Simon, I turned around, "You'll need this"
He handed me a red piece of paper. "Thanks"
I walked out of the room and almost walked into Dermot O'Leary. I nearly fainted. He must have been the second best looking man in the world, after Ronan of course.
"Congratulations" he said, seeing the red piece of paper in my hand.
"Thank you" I managed to squeak.
"in case you were wondering why I'm here, I'm the unofficial host for the live shows, but it could all change"
"Everything keeps bloody changing around here" he muttered.
I laughed at him.
"Would you do a quick interview for me?"
"Um, yeah I guess so..."
Dermot interviewed me for a few minutes. As I left I handed my letter to an assistant producer, who gave me another letter. "Boot camp" she said.
"Boot camp?" I repeated confused.
"Yeah, you know to find out if you'll get through to the live shows"
"Oh yeah sorry!"
I was still in shock at getting through at all.
"Here" she handed me the red letter back, "keep this one too as a souvenir"
"Thank you!"
When I got back to the hotel I was led on the bed when I had an idea. Ronan was on stage tonight so I couldn't call him. But....
I picked up the phone and dialled Louis Walsh's number.
