Early the next day my phone rang. I groaned and rolled over in bed. Typical when I'd decided to have a lie in...

It was Ronan.

"Hello!" I said

"Hey Vic, I just saw Louis"

"Oh yeah?" I said trying not to laugh.

"I knew you'd do it, you sneaky thing!"

"Well I couldn't tell you last night could I!"

Louis had come to the hotel then night before, and I'd given him the 'red' letter to give to Ronan. He'd given it to him without saying a word.

"I'm flying back tomorrow"

"You are?" he sounded delighted.

"Yeah, I want to see you before I go away again"

"Again?" he sounded disappointed.

"Yeah, if only I'd been in Louis' group" I pondered.

He only lived down the road from Ronan.

"Huh?"

I explained to him that all the finalists had been split into three categories, solo performers in ages - 16-24 and 25 and over's (which I thought made me sound old!) and groups.

Simon had the groups, Sharon had the 25 and over's and Louis had the 16-24's. We've got to go to their homes for a week, so that they can mentor us and pick their finalists for the live show's. "Oh, so you're not there yet then?"

"No, not quite!"

"You will be" he said.

"And I'll be there to cheer you on"

"But Ro...."

He knew I was thinking of work. "Relax Vic, the tour finishes next week"

"Oh yeah"

Time seemed to have passed so quickly since I'd first moved to Dublin, it was crazy.

When I arrived at Dublin airport the next day, I almost looked for Ronan, then remembered that he wouldn't be there. He was playing in Belfast tonight.

Suddenly a plan began to formulate in my mind. Instead of getting a taxi to Ronan's house I caught the next flight to Belfast. I wanted it to be a surprise so I stayed away from the arena, and went shopping instead.

I called Barrie and warned him, to make sure that nobody stopped me getting in later, and told him to get a few things ready for me too.

I was walking round a music store when I saw a queue full of giggling girls. I cursed and ran out of the shop, I'd forgotten about the CD signing. I must learn to be more careful.

I got to the arena just as Ronan walked on stage. Perfect timing!

Barrie helped me set up my radio mic. I crept on stage and sang quietly at first, letting Laura take the lead. After all he'd be used to only hearing her voice for a while.

He announced 'We've got tonight' this was my cue.

I let him introduce Laura, as there was no screen set up, I'd already checked with Barrie so I knew there was no video link.

As she sang her first line, the sound guys turned my microphone up as instructed, now my voice could clearly be heard over hers.

I walked towards her and sang by the side of her, Ronan was waving at some poor girl in the audience, he turned round and nearly stopped singing.

He grinned at me, took a step closer, put his arm around my waist and squeezed me tight.

We stood singing for a few minutes then the lights went out, nobody told me it was the last song of the night?

Ronan took the opportunity to kiss me.

Suddenly all the lights came on again.

Uh oh.

Ronan looked at me and then the arena sheepishly. "Ah, well" he said, "it was bound to come out eventually, this gorgeous girl you see before you is not only my backing singer, but she's my girlfriend too"

There was a huge cheer, and for that I got an even bigger kiss.

There was an after show party, but I was pretty knackered due to all the travelling I'd done. So I went to bed. Ronan gave me the key to his room, as Barrie hadn't had time to book another one. Not that I minded....

I was sound asleep when I heard voices in the corridor.

"Laura! Get off me!"

"For the last time I'm not interested!!!" it was Ronan, he was trying to be quiet but he was obviously angry with her.

I got up, put my dressing gown on and opened the door. I could see she was drunk which made me laugh, she was practically throwing herself at him. He was stood as far away from as her as he could possibly be in the narrow corridor.

"I'll sort this out" I said.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes"

"Laura!" I shouted at her, she looked like she was about to pass out at any minute.

"I'll say this once, and once only"

"If you EVER throw yourself at my boyfriend again, you'll be very sorry indeed"

"Understand?!"

She nodded, although I was small, I could be very forceful when I wanted to be.

I left her in the corridor and went in to Ro who was half asleep on the bed. I snuggled up to him, taking my dressing gown off, along with a few other items.

"What happened to twice a day?" I whispered in his ear.

He opened one eye and looked at me.

"It's not the end of the day yet" he said with a grin.
