Vic

After the miscarriage I threw myself back into work. My 3rd album was coming along nicely, co-written by both Ronan and Mick and it was nearly finished by early February 2007, which I was pleased with.

After the issues we'd had, I'd ended up going back to the studio a lot sooner than expected. Unfortunately Ro's last album hadn't done as well as expected so he'd said if I wanted to make an early start on the album then he was quite content to sit at home and look after Jess.

As a consequence I spent an awful lot of time away from him and Jessica, determined to make the album as quickly as I could. That meant that we could both take a well deserved break afterwards. Seems Ro had other ideas up his sleeve...

I was finishing up the last track on the album the Wednesday before Jess's 2rd birthday, progress was slow and I was getting annoyed at myself, which apparently Michael found hilarious. "Come on Vic, just let it be. Everyone makes mistakes..."

"I know Mick" I groaned. "But it's that sodding note, I just can't hit it"

"Whose stupid idea was it anyway?"

Mick chuckled "I erm, think it was yours"

He was right.

For some inexplicable reason I'd decided to do a couple of covers in the album, and one of those was Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush, what the hell had I been thinking?

Hmmmm when I thought back it was the result of a drunken night out with me, Ronan, Karen and Michael, Ro's family had babysat Jess that night and I seemed to remember we'd all gotten horrendously drunk.

Oooooops.

Oh well, there wasn't a really a lot I could do about it now.

I sighed and looked at Mick. "I don't think I can do it" I said quietly. He came and placed his hand on my shoulders and looked me in the eyes. "come on Vic, where's that fighting spirit eh?"

"I don't know Mick I..." I stopped myself, he didn't want to know about mine and Ro's problems did he!?

"It's nothing Mick, I'll be fine" I said, trying to convince myself more than him.

When I went to leave Mick's that night I remembered I had something to ask him.

"So we're having a party on Saturday, for Jess's 2nd Birthday. You and Karen are both very welcome"

I noticed he paled visibly as I said Karen's name. God, I hoped everything was ok. "I'll call Karen and ask her.."

"Call her?" I said slightly confused. Mick looked at the floor, "we broke up" he said quietly. "Oh Michael, I'm so sorry" I said.

"It's ok Vic" he said, "y'know it had been coming for a while"

"I'm not gonna be able to make it either Vic. I'm really sorry, but I'm in important meeting that day with Ro y'know"

"Ro?"

"My Ro?" I asked incredulously. "What the hell?"

"Has he not told you?"

"Told me what?"

Mick paced up and down the floor. "If Ro hasn't told you Vic" he bit his lip, he looked upset. "It's not my place to. I'm sorry..."

"What the hell's going on Mick?" I was getting angry now. I was pretty sure that whatever it was wasn't Mick's fault and I didn't mean to have a go at him, but really...

"You need to ask Ro Vic I'm sorry"

"Right" I said tightly. "Thanks Mick. I'll see you then I guess?"

"Yeah"

"Take care Vic"

"Yeah" I said and I walked down his garden path to my car with tears in my eyes.
