She explained so clearly what was at stake for them, so clearly that it was as though she pointed at Wei WuXian's nose and told him to get lost quickly and not to stay here and burden them. If Wei WuXian were the one injured or if somebody else had saved them, he'd immediately say farewell and leave at once, full of determination. However, right now, Jiang Cheng was the one who had been injured. Not only was he injured, he had lost his core as well. He wasn't in his right mind. No matter what, Wei WuXian couldn't find any determination. And the Wen Sect was what caused them to be in such a situation to begin with. It was only natural for him to feel unwilling to give up. He could only clench his teeth and stay quiet.
"Ohhh she is quite bold", XiChen commented.
"Not just bold", Wei WuXian was remembering the days he spent with Wen Qing and others. "She is very fierce"
"See", SiZhui laughed. "I told you he is scared of her"
Wen Ning, "B-But the Wen Sect people..."
Wen Qing cut him off, "What the Wen Sect does doesn't represent what we do. We don't need to be responsible for the Wen Sect's wrongdoing. Wei Ying, there's no need to look at me like that. There's a beginning to all debts. I'm the office leader of Yiling, but I was ordered to take the position. I'm a medic, an apothecary, I've never killed anyone, much less touched the blood of the Jiang Sect."
It was true. Nobody had heard of any lives lost by Wen Qing's hands. There were always many cases that people wanted her to take over. It was because Wen Qing was one of the Wen Sect's people whose way of doing things was actually normal. At times she could even put in a few good words for people in front of Wen RuoHan. Her reputation had always been good.
All were silent within the room.
"Can you, the prestigious cultivators, believe it now?", Wei Wuxian asked in a not-so-gentle tone.
"During all those years, this is exactly what I was trying to convince. That Wen Qing and her brother Wen Ning are not part of the Qishan Wens and they don't kill anyone. But No.. All of you deliberately played deaf, until Wen Ning became a non-human and got blood in his hand", he was panting and his voice carried the pain for the people he couldn't protect.
"You could have, any of you could have given them a shelter. But you chose not to do"
"They risked their life to protect us, Jiang Cheng ", Wei WuXian called out. "US. Do you understand how difficult it was for them to put their lives on the line, for what? To protect two people whom they barely knew?"
"I'm sorry", Jiang Cheng whispered. His eyes were filled up, now very well informed of the extent the siblings went to protect them. "I was the one who owed them my life, but I failed..."
"You did", Wei WuXian spat. "I never did and never will blame you for not staying by my side but you should have done that for them. At Least you should have tried."
Words getting stuck in his throat, Jiang Cheng didn't have the guts to look into his eyes. He knew that was one of the unredeemable mistakes he made. His entire concentration and focus was on the rebuilding of Lotus Pier. Amidst the chaos of getting his sect back and making it habitable he forgot the people who gave his life back to him.
The juniors were petrified..
Even the spirits lost their voice sensing the anger rising in him...
"And what about you? ", WuXian pointed his fingers at Lans. "Do you know how many rules you broke by not listening to what they have to say?".
