You were pacing nervously around the living room, it was the day of your dentist appointment, it was scheduled for 11:30 am. Your mom tried to schedule it in the afternoon in case you needed to get numbed but it was either that one, or the next available appointments, which was until next week. At 10:30 you had already eaten morning snack and now you were anxious about the food you had eaten and the appointment.- "Do you want to go for a small walk? Before your appointment?" Taylor asked aiming to calm you down.
- "Yeah. That'd be good" you replied.
- "We're walking, alright? No compensating breakfast" Taylor said getting her bag and phone.
- "Thank you for clearing it up" Andrea said from the kitchen. They had recently noticed that you were more anxious at meal times and looked for any opportunity you had to use compensating behaviors.
You just rolled your eyes and walked to the door to open it and wait for Taylor to come, when you did you saw a familiar car pulling up.
- "Mmm, Tay, what is Tree doing here?" You asked.
- "Oh shit... I forgot we planned a meeting..." Taylor replied, and Tree got off the car and walked towards you.
- "Good morning! No that I don't love this lovely welcome, but were you planning on going out?" Tree said hugging both of you.
- "I forgot we had the meeting, sorry. We were going for a little walk, Lizzie's nervous, she has her dentist appointment in an hour" Taylor said ashamed.
- "But we can stay here, don't worry" you said disappointed because you really needed the walk to ease yourself a bit and of course, to burn some calories.
- "No, let's go for the walk, we can work when we come back, and you go to your appointment, right Tay?" Tree said stroking your arm.
You opened your eyes wide in fear, that meant that Taylor wasn't going with you to the appointment like she promised, but you knew that she needed to work, so you just tried your best to keep a neutral gaze.
- "Sorry, baby. I'll be there for your next appointment" Taylor said going down the steps to start walking and the redhead and you followed her
- "You think I'll need another appointment?" You asked stopping. Panic was evident in your face and your voice.
Taylor visibly tensed up, knowing she messed up and that you were even more worried now:
- "No, I mean...you said the orthodontist said that you might need some treatments, right? Sometimes that takes various appointments. Like today is the checkup, and then they might do the treatments in other appointments" Taylor said resuming the walk.
- "Various?" You asked panicking even more. Stopping once again.
Taylor bit her lip in distress, everything she was saying was worrying you more. Tree noticed but didn't know how to help.
- "You'll be fine, I promise" Taylor said holding your hand and walking again.
Tree was visibly confused but didn't say a thing, you spoke up and explained:
- "This is pretty embarrassing but basically I messed up my teeth" you said looking away.
- "You didn't mess up your teeth, you just have some cavities, need them filled and need some treatments" Taylor shrugged.
-It's not embarrassing, honey. It's pretty normal to need fillings, I've gotten some, Tay and your mom have too" Tree said trying to reassure you.
- "It's just... this was never an issue before. But whatever" you said wanting the conversation to be over. Tree understood and started to talk about other things. You walked for about 30 minutes and went back home, your mom was already in the car waiting for you, you ran to the bathroom to brush your teeth quickly, said goodbye to Taylor and Tree, who wished you luck and then you hopped on the front passenger's seat. You were quiet the whole ride even when your mom tried to distract you. You checked in and were quickly called in. Thankfully your mom had spoken with the dentist before, so he didn't ask any uncomfortable questions. He just greeted you kindly and guided you to the seat.
