A week later you were in the car with Taylor and your mom to go the dentist. You were quiet and looking through the window, running your tongue over the teeth that needed to get filled, specially that one tooth that the dentist said that had changed in shape and texture. When you got there Taylor held your hand while your mom checked you in, you were shaking in fear and Taylor rubbed her thumb across your knuckles.

- "You'll be fine, Lizzie"

- "You don't know that what if I need a root canal?"

- "Let's hope you don't. It'll be over really quickly; you won't feel a thing after they numb you" Taylor insisted.

You were quickly called back, and the dentist smiled widely while he greeted you:

- "Good afternoon! How's it been? Any sensitivity after the fillings?" The dentist asked.

You just grimaced and your mom knew that you were not going to answer him:

- "She's complained a bit of tenderness and pain..."

- "Okay, let's take a look and then we can fix the other teeth" he said guiding you to the chair. Andrea and Taylor took a seat.

There were no problems at all with the fillings beside a little tenderness the first day but saying that you had pain helped you to get out of food easier, so you were taking advantage of it. The dentist lowered the chair, you opened your mouth, and he took a look around, he poked and checked the fillings too.

- "Everything's looking great for now. I don't think the fillings are causing you problems...have you been anxious? Maybe grinding your teeth?" He asked.

You shook your head "Nah".

- "Alright let's see how this evolves. We're going to start right now. I'll put some topical anesthesia like last time, then I'll give you local anesthesia"

You immediately panicked and closed your mouth, lift your head and looked for your mom and your sister.

- "Okay one of you can come closer and hold her hand" he said to Taylor and Andrea. They looked at each other and Andrea gently pushed Taylor; she knew that you wanted your sister for support. Taylor moved her chair next to your left side.

- "Both cavities are in the right side, I'd guess you'll need two injections on the upper part and two on the lower" he said and then applied topical anesthesia on the lower gum, next to the right second molar and at the back of that side of your mouth. After a couple of minutes, he grabbed a tool to keep your mouth open and then got the needle ready.

- "I'll need you to stay very still, close your eyes, if you want you can squeeze Taylor's hand as hard as you can. I'll start with the injection that usually hurts the most, at the back of the right side of your mouth"

You looked at Taylor with tears building in your eyes. You were terrified.

- "Relax, baby, it'll be over before you know it. Close your eyes" you did what she told you and felt as the dentist came closer. Your heart rate was rapid, and you were slowly panicking. Suddenly you felt the needle piercing and you just whined in pain; a little cry sound came out.

- "It'll be over soon, hang in there Elizabeth" the dentist said as he pushed the medication in. 15 seconds later, he took the needle out. And you opened your eyes. Taylor was looking at you

- "That's how hard you can squeeze my hand? Come on buddy, you're stronger" she said trying to joke and calm you down, she wiped the tears in your left cheek away. The dentist had already prepared the second injection and asked you to close your eyes again, this time he stuck it on the gum next to the decayed tooth. It hurt, but less than the first injection.
