Erin was the first one to notice something was off. She had known you for longer than most of your friends, Lou included, so when you started eating "healthier" she didn't worry at first, but when you said that you were exercising daily and learnt that you were working out even when you were tired and going for runs even when it was raining; she knew that it could be dangerous. She didn't say anything initially, she was trying to convince herself that she was probably over thinking, but when you skipped on a party invitation because you "needed to work out", she decided to talk to Lou when they were getting ready for the party.
- "Lou... I fear that something might be wrong with Lizzie"
Lou frowned: - "What? Why?"
- "I don't know... all the "being healthier" stuff she's into... it's weird. Don't you think so?" Erin inquired.
- "Of course it is not. She's fine. I'm gonna try another outfit, tell me which one looks better. Bill is going today, and I want to look amazing, I'm looking forward to talking to him" Lou replied trying on a different top. Lou was a great friend and such a sweet and caring girl, but sometimes she was too into herself, and it was hard for her to acknowledge other's feelings. Erin knew that, so she insisted without pushing too far:
- "She bailed on today's party because she 'had to work out', it's strange, it might be nothing, though...but can we just keep an eye on her? Please?"
- "Okay. We'll keep an eye on her behavior and what she eats, if one of us spots something suspicious, we'll talk again and go from there. Deal?" Lou said.
- "Deal" Erin replied.
Within the next two weeks both of them were paying attention to you and they were, in fact, a bit concerned. This time it was Lou the one to start the conversation, since they were in another classroom it was easy for them to find moments without you to talk about this. They were doing a math workshop together and Lou said:
- "I think you're right, Erin, about Lizzie. She's acting weird, she laughs with us, but I feel like she's not really here, you know? Maybe we should talk to her? Ask her if she's okay"
- "Yeah... okay. Let's talk to her at recess"
When recess time came you, all went to grab your snacks and when you saw that there was no fruit offered, just an oats and raisins cookie, you panicked a bit and opted for having nothing at all.
- "Aren't you having anything?" Lou asked.
- "Nah. There's no fruit, I'd rather have nothing" you replied.
They both look at each other concerned, thinking how to address this, but Lou just jumped into it:
- "Liz, we're worried about you..."
- "Ermmm, why?" You asked with confusion all over your face.
- "You're not eating" Lou replied.
- "It's fine guys. I'll have a bigger lunch later or make for it when I get home. Don't worry" you said.
- "No... but we're not talking about this time only. You haven't been eating as much as you were before. You're different, ever since you started 'being healthier'" Erin said looking at the floors avoiding eye contact with you.
- "Different? How?" You asked with a sharper tone.
- "You used to be happier" Lou said.
- "That's nonsense. I am happy. I just want to be healthier, and being healthier makes me happy, there's nothing to worry about" you said with a straight face, getting them to know that you were done talking about this.
