The palace was quiet today, Mileena and Empress Sindel were busy organizing the welcoming ceremony for the champions of Earthrelm. Recently the two realms made themselves allies, which was a wish Liu Kang took to kindly. Now it would be made official through the ceremony.

Princess Kitana was busy setting up the outside preparations and decorations. Her Umgadi, Y/N, was there to help. Kitana and Y/N have been best friends ever since Y/N was assigned as Kitana's bodyguard. One thing that was truly fascinating about Y/N was that she was a shape shifter. Since then the two shared everything together. Kitana began pinning the banners across the pillars in the gardens, her brow furrowed in concentration. Her mind flooded with the possibilities of how this evening would go, but they weren't exactly about the guests themselves. No, it was more about a specific person, that person being Champion Raiden.

Raiden has caught her attention quite quickly, although she kept shooting him down, there was this tiny feeling of butterflies in her tummy when she was in his presence. She had been seeing him more often due to this little alliance. The princess felt her palm brush against the pillar, a warm smile appeared under her mask as a result of the thought of Raiden, "PRINCESS!" Y/N yelled, startling Kitana, "I've been calling you forever now, what are you thinking about?!" The Umgadi asked slightly annoyed, "Nothing! Just don't worry about it." She said blushing. Suddenly the annoyance was replaced by curiosity with Y/N, she grinned as she looked at Princess Kitana, "Oh really now, thinking?" She said with a wink, making the princess even more flustered, "Stop it Y/N!"

"What? I'm just teasing, after all, I could uh, show you what I mean." Y/N said with a smile, Kitana looked away, focusing on the banner. Once she looked back, Y/N has shape shifted into Raiden, the princess shrieked at the sight, "Mi amor Kitana!" Y/N teased still in Raiden's form, "Oh how you excite me Princess! The mere thought of you brings me to my knees!" The Umgadi said in a mockingly romantic tone. Kitana looked away trying to ignore her friend's antics, "Come! Dance with me your highness!" Y/N said, pulling Kitana into a waltz, the princess broke free feeling incredibly flustered. Y/N laughed as she returned back to her normal form, "I'm sorry Princess I had to!" She said giving the flustered girl a hug, "Whatever." Kitana replied. Sindel and Princess Mileena had come through to see the progress on the outside preparations, "Kitana are you almost done?" Her highness asked, "Yes mother! I just need to fasten the banner to the pillar."

"Excellent, when you are done, prepare for the feast." Sindel said giving a kiss to her daughter's forehead, "You look like a cherry sister, make sure to cool your body temperature first." Mileena said in a joking tone, making Kitana touch her cheek, surprised at the sudden heat in her fingertips. The princess shook her head and walked off to her room, Y/N stayed behind, fastening the banner for her. Tanya had come up to see Y/N, making sure her friend was doing the job right, "You done?" She asked, "Yep! Can you believe Princess Kitana has a crush on the champion!?" Y/N said, only Tanya knew about the princesses little crush, "Shush Y/N! You'll draw attention." Tanya scolded, "But yes, I find it quite adorable if you ask me." The other Umgadi said with a grin, "Do you want to see them together Tanya?"

"Of course I do, they'd make a good couple in my humble opinion." Tanya said placing a hand to her chest, "Let's follow her!" Y/N said, Tanya raised an eyebrow, "Why?" She asked, "So we can help her! Come on let's go!" Y/N said grabbing Tanya's arm and dragging her away from the courtyard.

Kitana sat quietly in her room, brushing her hair about 100 times. Tanya and Y/N were found outside her window, stealthily watching the princess get ready, "This feels illegal." Tanya said, "Well it's not! Besides our job is to keep the princess safe at all times and to keep an eye on her always! So technically we're doing our job." Tanya rolled her eyes at Y/N. Kitana picked at her eyeshadow pallet, indecisive of what colour to use. Her finger tapped her desk impatiently, "Why is this so difficult!? Just wear what you normally wear when they come here." She said going for the gold eye shadow, but hesitated, "What if he notices and thinks it's boring... I should wear something else." The princess said choosing the light blue eyeshadow, "But that doesn't look right!" She complained. Tanya and Y/N cocked their heads, "Since when was she so self conscious about her eyeshadow?" Tanya asked, "No idea." Y/N replied. Kitana then began to work on her face, applying blush and foundation to her blemishes, "What in Argus's name is that!?" She said pressing her face closer to her desk mirror. Kitana saw her eyes widen, "Is that a mole?!" She panicked picking at it, making her skin bleed. Tanya and Y/N cringed at the sight. The princess frantically searched for a tissue to quickly clean the blood and stop more from flowing. The Princess cracked, her tears began to flow from her eyes as she saw all the tiny imperfections on her face, Tanya and Y/N watched from the window, their hearts breaking.
