London, Granger Residence
Monica and Wendell Granger were delighted that their daughter had decided to spend Christmas with them. Earlier, they had received a letter from an owl in which Hermione informed them that she would be spending Christmas with her friends as they prepared for their N.E.W.T.s. However, she had surprised them by showing up at home.
Hermione: Mom, the book says it's 15 drops of wine.
Monica: Not all answers are in books, dear.
Monica Granger was pouring wine over the turkey.
Monica: Why did you decide to come home, dear? Your letter said you'd be with your friends for Christmas.
Hermione: I missed you both and realized I haven't been spending enough time with you.
In her mind, Hermione recalls the real reason.

Days before the Christmas holidays began, Hermione had tried to get Harry and Ron to befriend Sasuke, but it was impossible since, to them, Slytherin meant evil. The same went for the members of Dumbledore's Army; no Slytherins had been invited.
Hermione had received an invitation from Mrs. Weasley to spend Christmas with them at the Order of the Phoenix headquarters.
Smiling as an idea formed, Hermione left the room to find Sasuke.
While walking, she thought of inviting Sasuke to spend Christmas with Harry, Ron, and the Order, believing that by fighting the same enemy—Voldemort—they could become friends instead of being on opposite sides.
Just as Sasuke was leaving, walking through the hall, Hermione approached him.
Hermione: Sasuke, can I talk to you for a moment?
Sasuke: Make it quick, I don't have much time.
Hermione: Would you like to spend Christmas with me, Harry, Ron, and Ginny?
Sasuke: Wait, aren't you spending Christmas with your parents?
Hermione: No, I already asked for their permission, and they understand.
Sasuke: You should spend it with your parents. You spend almost the whole year with your friends and barely any time with your parents. When they're no longer here, you'll regret not spending more time with them. Besides, if anything happens, you're the only one who can protect them. Voldemort is still at large.
Hermione noticed that Sasuke seemed to be speaking from personal experience, though that didn't make sense since, according to her research, his parents were still alive, unless...
Hermione: Sasuke, your parents...
Sasuke: My parents will be spending Christmas and New Year's with me.
Hermione: I see.
Sasuke said goodbye, thinking he should hurry as he was expected in the Room of Requirement.

When Hermione's parents entered the room, she opened her enchanted bag, pulled out two presents, and hid them in the cupboard.
She then took out her wand and cast several protective spells around the house, thinking it was better to be safe than sorry.
