The Order of the Phoenix V

Minutes earlier, as they escaped the great hall and dashed through the corridors, the group came to a halt.

Fred: STOP FOR A MOMENT!

Katie Bell: WE CAN'T STOP, FRED! WE NEED TO KEEP RUNNING!

Fred: Let's split into two groups.

Ron: Why?

George: If we stay in one group, we'll be an easy target, and I don't know how long we can hold off Uchiha.

Percy: Let's do it! This way, we'll increase our chances of escaping.

Fred: Alright, the first group will head up to the third floor, where the secret passage to Honeydukes is. The other group will go to the broom shed to escape through the air.

Alicia Spinet: Katie, Seamus, Terry, Anthony, Justin, Ernie, Rionach, come with me to the broom shed.

George: The rest of us will go to the secret passage. Good luck!

Katie Bell: Same to you.

The two groups split up: the first ascended the stairs while the other headed to the Quidditch pitch.

Percy: Come on, keep running! We just need to get up this section to reach the third floor.

Percy, leading the way, encouraged the others, but then a barrage of spells hit them, causing him to tumble over the stair railing.

Ron: PERCY!

Fred moved toward the railing to cast a spell to save his brother.

Fred: LEVITA—

But another shower of spells from behind interrupted Fred's incantation, forcing him to block the incoming attack.

George: CURSE IT! WHO ARE THEY?

Everyone raised their wands and then saw their attackers: house-elves. There were nine in total—five in front and four behind. Ron recognized one of them and shouted:

Ron: Dobby, why are you attacking us?

But the ever-cheerful elf didn't respond; his gaze was vacant, just like the others.

Lee Jordan: No matter what happens, we need to defeat them if we want to get out of here.

Fred: Everyone, cover me! I'm going to get Percy; he's still alive.

Ron: We'll do that.

From the first floor, a battered Percy shouted to them:

Percy: DON'T COME BACK FOR ME! ESCAPE, THERE'S NO TIME LEFT! I CAN'T RUN ANYMORE; I'LL JUST BE A BURDEN.

The others continued to fight against the elves, starting to take them down.

Fred: WE'RE NOT GOING TO ABANDON YOU!

Percy: DON'T BE STUPID!

Fred couldn't believe what he was seeing: an elf appeared out of nowhere and stabbed Percy with a knife.

George and Ron: NOOOOO!

Filled with rage, Fred aimed his wand at the elf on the first floor and shouted:

Fred: SECTUMSEMPRA!

The elf fell to the ground, dead, as numerous cuts appeared on its body.

Lee Jordan: WE CAN'T STOP; WE HAVE TO KEEP GOING!

Lee began to pull Fred forward, urging him to move on, as the others followed suit. But then they heard the howling of something approaching; everyone looked around with their wands at the ready, and before them appeared creatures never seen before.
