Hermione and Neville stepped onto Platform No. 3 to decide the winner.
Flitwick: Miss Granger and Mr. Longbottom, bow.
Hermione Granger and Neville Longbottom, both wizards, raised their wands and performed the proper bow. Then, they turned around and took the required ten steps.
The cannon fired, signaling the start of the duel.
Spells began to fly rapidly.

They were evenly matched.

The spell forced Neville to stop as it hit the ground near him.

The platform became covered with debris from the explosive spell.
Neville was covered in dirt from dodging Hermione's attacks but found the opening he was waiting for.
Neville: Langlock!
Neville smiled as Hermione tried to cast a spell, but nothing happened.
Neville: Surrender, Hermione.

In the Stands, Snape watched furiously. Most of the spells used by the Gryffindors had been invented by him.
