[Chara]

The T.V droned on monotonously, the words coming out of its speakers a garbled mess, Frankensteined together by Chara's mindless flipping through different channels. Recently, school for Y/n had started up again, which left her in an empty house with nothing of note to do for half a day. She eventually found that watching scenes pass by far too quickly to be processed was the best way of drowning out any impulsive actions, such as trailing Y/n on his way to school to keep an eye on him. Unexpectedly, she was discovered rather quickly, which led Y/n to very firmly lecture through a dozen reasons why that kind of behavior wasn't acceptable.

After who knows how long of cycling through different shows, some of which she most likely had skipped past multiple times already, the deadbolt on the front door opened with a loud clunk, which was soon followed by the door swinging open. Y/n shuffled through, locking the door behind him before tossing his backpack aside and joining Chara on the couch.

"You look as spry as ever," she commented.

"I don't exactly have the lightest workload, you know."

"What could you have possibly been doing? Carrying boulders all day?"

"I might as well have been. Calculus and psychology aren't well known for being easy subjects."

"Sounds simple enough. It's just some math and thinking about thinking, it shouldn't be that bad."

"Sure, I would agree if my teachers didn't have sticks up their asses," Y/n said with a roll of his eyes. "Can you pass the remote?"

Chara nodded and tossed the remote over, only for Y/n to shut the T.V off. It seemed like he wasn't too fond of her endless meandering through the available channels.

"At least leave it on something," Chara complained.

"Fine," Y/n agreed before turning the T.V back on and switching to a local news channel.

"Breaking news! After several years of a tense standoff, peace negotiations between Staleifa and Centrilas have once again broken down. If not remedied at the next meeting, it is very likely that a head-to-head clash between the two nations will occur. In the past, they have chosen to steer clear of the Town of Ebott, wary of public backlash, but in years past, both sides have demonstrated a willingness to overstep to get their messages across. This along with growing unrest within the Town of Ebott itself, could lead to a tragedy in untold proportions. Will these two nations contain their century-long feud? Will Ebott be caught in the crossfire? Only time would tell."

"Tch... I can't believe they haven't figured things out yet."

    "Did I hear correctly? A century-long feud?"

"Haaa... yeah, and that's probably not even an accurate estimation. There are historians who claim their infighting dates all the way back to feudal times," Y/n sighed, his eyes suddenly looking past the screen to an invisible horizon.

"Jeez. What are they even fighting over?"

"No one really knows. The leading hypothesis is that of a turf war. One side claims the other's land, and the other does the same. It's... it's an endless back and forth that neither side wants to concede to, despite all the efforts put towards mediation," Y/n guessed.

His hands balled up into a clenched fist, then unfurled alongside another long sigh.

Chara stayed silent, suddenly drawn in by the words scrolling by in the closed captions and the reporter on screen.
