Being an executioner often comes with many stigmas. Heartless, sadistic, a murder. How can you blame the people who think that way? The job of the executioner is to take lives, follow death's prerogative, and deliver the problematic souls. D was tasked with this burden by the rest of the Seven. It was clear to all of them from the very start that D would be the best candidate. They didn't particularly enjoy shedding those of their moral coils, but their magic was the most potent out of the seven, and therefore the best at delivering particularly pesky souls who don't want to comply. They didn't mind ridding the world of those ones.
Then there are the souls who do comply. Those... they are even harder to deal with... There are times when D has doubts about whether or not they should even have possession of this power at all.

D was trending through a beautiful field full of flowers of all shapes and colors. Each blossom was an outcome of P's delicate love and care. They seemed to breathe as they rose and fell in the wind. D was admiring the enchanting work P had done, their breath stolen away by the landscape. As they followed the path, eventually D encountered a god clad in blue robes. D immediately noticed the slight twitch in the god's eyes as they approached. To their shock, the god instantly dropped to their knees before D.
"Please... I've lived long enough, suffered enough. Grant me the honor, O' Grand Executioner of the 7, and end my prolonged existence. I see no more reason to continue on. Rend my soul from this indestructible body and present me to Death" the disillusioned god begged with hands clasped and head bowed.
"... what crime have you committed?" D asked with great concern.
"None ever inscribed, great one. I only seek refuge in the sea of stars where my family rests." Though the god tried to maintain composure, the slight tremble of their voice was not lost to D.
A survivor. The war against the Thoughtless wrought countless shattered families. Countless gods like this one were left alone as their own flesh and blood perished on the battlefield. Some got past that trauma, while others used it to fuel their ambitions. Never has D witnessed one so eager to face what was is in truth... eternal darkness.
"I cannot do that. I only take the lives of those who fail to live in tandem with the rest of the sky. I am the Great Equalizer that resets the balances of J and the actor of Karma's hand. Your request falls out of my jurisdiction," D responded calmly.
"Death has already declined my request using the same reasoning. Great Executioner of the 7, if you nor death has dominion over my invaluable life, then who does? Only you can end my misery, so please... don't leave me in the world of black and white."
"......" D falls silent.
"Why don't you speak? I have already done all I can in this life, followed every rule imaginable of the sky, and struggled against the Thoughtless for my entire life. Does this request outweigh that lifetime of dedication?" the god demanded in desperation.
"I'm sorry, but—"
"What will it take? Do I have to tear up the sky and rain fire to the Earth? Do I have to burn down the stores upon stores of information the god of knowledge has accrued? Must I release the Thoughtless in our labs from containment and let them wreak havoc amongst the sky? What is necessary to attract your gaze O' honored one?!" the god cried.
D's expression darkened.
"Any one of the 7 can stop your plans from ever happening. If you try to carry out any of these suggestions, J will measure your intent and you will perish," D warned.
The god laughed.
"Very well! If that is what I must do to join my family amongst the stars then so be it."
A long scythe formed in D's hand. The red blade gleamed hungrily for its next soul. They raised it to the god's neck slowly. The scythe hummed in anticipation. The god's expression quickly flashed from shock, to fear, and finally to a relieved smile in a matter of seconds.
"I sense that you tell no lies behind your threats to the order of the sky. If you do not back down from these promises, then I will have no choice but to stop you," D explained.
"Do it then, Mighty Executioner. Save everyone the stress, worry, and time of a rogue god. End my life here and you save countless other lives. Is that not a simple decision to make?"
D paused and sighed heavily.
"Is this what you truly want?" D asked in confirmation.
"Please," the god said with their head lowered and eyes closed.
"......"

With a swift arc of their scythe, the god crumpled to the ground, their immortal body dissipating into a pile of red dust. A gust of wind swung past, picking up the dust and spreading it across the field of flowers. The scythe thrummed gently against D's hands, the extracted soul of the god thumping slowly inside.

"You monster! How could you sentence her to death? She has worked her entire life for the 7!"
"You are mistaken. I do not cast judgment, I only act out Karma's will."
"All of the same! It was you who killed her was it not!?"

"Why?! We were so close to the final solution to ending the Thoughtless onslaught! Why would you take away our lead scientist?"
"At the cost of godly blood and human souls. I only take the souls of those who choose death over compliance. It is not my choice to make."
"So what?! What is the cost of salvation? What's a hundred thousand human souls if that results in the extermination of the biggest threat to our world?!"

"... it's okay D. Don't cry. It's all for the better of this world, right? Sometimes we have to make mistakes to create a way for progress. If my death is another step to that final solution, then I would give myself up a million times over."
"...Why? Why did you do this?"
"Hah... fate works in mysterious ways, doesn't it? Sometimes we simply don't have the answers to why we do things. Our deepest fears drive us to press past the norm, even if what we might not be considered the right thing. I... I'm sorry D. I too wished that this wouldn't have been the case. Now, it's time to give a grand finale to this play I've been putting on. You'll grant me that honor, won't you D?
"......"
"Don't mourn for me too much okay? It's for a better cause, and I would hate to be the cause of your suffering."
"......"
"Goodbye D... may we meet again amongst the sea of stars, and perhaps, if we do see each other, I'll put on another play for you, for old time's sake."
