I hope you haven't been getting too comfortable the past several chapters.

[Chara]
Sunlight flowed through unadjusted blinds in rigid sheets. Chara's eyes flutter open to dozens of goofy, no-longer-glow-in-the-dark stars stuck on the ceiling. She, of course, gave him some trouble for still having such childish things in his room, to which he had sheepishly dismissed with, "Taking them off would ruin the ceiling paint." It was a weak cover-up, one she quickly disproved later that night by picking at a cluster of them without adverse effects on the ceiling, but at the time she wasn't in the mood to argue, so she just let it go.
Chara pushed herself out of bed, ignoring Y/n's strange suggestions of rearranging the blanket and tidying her hair on her way to the bathroom. Brushing her teeth was also a thing she had to pick up after a remark about her breath from Y/n. She almost severed his head for the comment, but refrained from doing so because he wasn't entirely wrong. Plus, she got a good laugh out of Y/n freaking out because she swallowed the bubbles instead of spitting them out, so it was a net positive in her books. A quick splash of water later, she began making her way downstairs.
10:02 A.M. Usually at this time Y/n would have already gotten up and begun making breakfast. She always insisted that her portion of eggs and hash-browns was unnecessary, but without fail, there would be a plate for her at the table with a consolatory chocolate pancake stuck under everything else. Despite all this, Y/n never had the courtesy of waiting for her to eat. By the time she meandered her way to the kitchen, he would already be halfway through his plate, after which he would go do whatever homework that quote, should have been done months ago. Sometimes Chara would let him work, other times she would drag him out for more training.
In either case, watching over his shoulder while he struggled with a worksheet, stepping away from his gamble of a strike, filled her with a sense of calm and warmth, the same feeling those strange pre-memories gave off whenever she thought about them. Though, she wouldn't be caught dead admitting that aloud.
"Y/n?" Chara called out.
No response.
No snarky remark about the time, no barely awake greeting, no sly 'Princess', nothing.
A vice clamped down on her throat and her heart rate spiked. Chara scrambled over to the kitchen table to see if Y/n had left any indicator of where he had gone. Usually, when he went out early, there would be a knock on her door, and only when Y/n was sure he had her attention, would he explain that he would be out for groceries or to fill in for somebody at his job, and even then he would still have made something for breakfast. But not today.
Chara's heart thudded heavily against her chest. She frantically swiveled around, her eyes bolting from one place to the next until they fell upon a sticky note placed right in front of where she would usually be sitting. On it was a hastily scrawled-out sentence.
