[Y/n]
Yet another mind-numbing day of endless lectures, Y/n thought to himself as he made his way home. Sometimes he wondered if it was the countless years of mental erosion that came with dealing with practically grown, and yet somehow still childish, adults on a day-to-day basis, or the immense futility of trying to educate in any other manner that made his teachers specifically choose such a boring method of teaching. It was just slides after notes after slides to no end, while they spoke into a drone that would lure a fussy newborn to sleep.
The only exception was the one who taught painting, Professor V, or Big V as some students would refer to him despite his many objections, one of which being that the 'Professor' was a real honorific he earned at some big college outside of Ebott. To Y/n, though, Professor V looked more like a hippie who was pulled off the streets who also so happened to have a knack for pedagogy. He was quite the character, flashy in his demonstrations, strict in his scoldings. It felt like he was the only one who actually cared for the subject he taught.
Perhaps, Y/n was biased because he was amused by the 'public executions' he would hold to critique a student's piece.
Y/n unlocked the front door and slipped into his house. Chara was once again lying on the couch, but instead of randomly going through dozens of channels like she had the habit of doing, she was fiddling with the flip phone he had gotten her recently. It could only make calls and receive messages, but that was enough to placate her irrational worry that he'll be whisked away to some random corner of the Earth while making his way to school.
"Stop messing with that thing or you might accidentally call law enforcement," Y/n cautioned.
"I'm not an idiot, Y/n. Who do you take me for?"
"Who knows if you've owned a cellphone before. I can only assume the worst in case it does happen."
"Whatever, you ready to go out?" She asked hopping up from the couch.
"Huh?"
"You said we would get some training in today, no? You've been getting away with doing nothing for a week now."
"Ah... right," Y/n said, suddenly remembering his offhanded remark while doing homework a couple of days ago.
"Well? What are you waiting for?"
"It's just that I have some philosophy homework to do and I don't quite have the time for both."
"What's so hard about it?" Chara contested with her arms crossed.
"It's just a load of random questions that neither my teacher nor I have the answers to, which means I have to bullshit something that also somehow makes sense. But when I try to make something up, I end up debating myself endlessly until I find the mangled result passable."
"Why not debate me about those questions while we trained? You can just write the answers down later."
"That's not a bad—" Y/n began before snapping his mouth shut. "I-I mean there's other homework I need to do," he finished nervously.
Alas, it was already too late. Chara had heard his accidental admission and was now raising an eyebrow.
"For example?" She prodded, pursuing her injured prey like a shark trailing a trace of blood.
