[Y/n]

Pink petals fall quietly, twisting through the air like sickly ballerinas putting on their last performance. Dense grey clouds, the dark specters that they are, loomed overhead, sapping the life out of the sky itself. Despite all the glaring indications of a coming storm, Y/n still found himself standing in that large field with the lone cherry blossom, a field now adorned with a stone crown. He held onto the small vase in his hands tightly, his eyes panning over words and numbers that shouldn't exist, at least not so soon.

    "Hey," greeted a familiar voice.

"... I never told you where I'd be," Y/n said.

"There are only so many places you could have gone. Still, it would have been helpful if you had left a note or something," Chara grumbled.

"Because god forbid I have some time alone, right?" Y/n scoffed.

"Because you have a tendency to get kidnapped by a malicious cult," she corrected.

"They can come and slit my throat for all I care," he mumbled under his breath.

    "......"

"Sorry, I didn't mean to say that out loud."

"... That's a nice message. Did your mom use to say that?"

"Sort of. It was all in the same vein, but this specifically was chosen out by her."

    "How..."

"Her doctor gave me a note with that written on it. I guess she knew for a while that this was going to happen..."

Chara couldn't come up with a response.

Y/n sighed and sat down, placing the vase in his lap. Chara bent down and crossed her legs next to him.

"Why are you here Chara?" He asked all of a sudden.

    "Sorry?"

"You could have extorted anyone out of the things you need, but for some reason far beyond what I can make sense of, you chose to fuck with me. I'm asking, why me?

"I don't understand. You were the first one I met," Chara said bluntly.

"Bullshit. You're telling me just because of our little back and forth when we first met, you decided I'm the one you'll piggyback off?"

"... This isn't about why I chose to stay with you, is it?" she tested softly.

"... I'm clearly not in the best financial situation, I basically have to take care of myself all the time, and as you said, there is some freakish cult trying to skin me alive. Why go through all the trouble? So that you can mess with me in our one-sided sparring matches?"

Chara hesitated for a moment, then another. Her mouth shifted like she wanted to say something, but the words were lost to her. Then looking up into the gloomy sky, she finally found her response.

"Remember when I told you about my time in the underground?"
