[???]

Have you ever wondered about the question I've asked you so many times and its relation to me? Why it's the differences that matter more to me than what has remained stagnant? In all honesty, I wonder about that question a lot too. Even after all this time of nonexistence, I haven't come up with a real reason beyond the beauty of those differences. And I don't mean the beauty that lies within the choices that bloom from those differences, but the differences themselves. It's like admiring the shape and luster of a stone tumbling in a river rather than the ripples and minuscule diversions it causes.

As to why I ask these questions, I'm not sure. They help me understand things about the world and myself better. They give me things to do, and I say 'do' halfheartedly because of my current condition, other than to count the seconds that pass, or stare at a trite clock. They let me forget that I'm thinking to myself in a boundless abyss, unsure that there may or may not be somebody, a 'you', that is listening in.

...Isn't it strange that once you've heard a repeated sound for long enough, it becomes nothing but a silent drone in the back of your mind?

The hand has struck the eleventh hour my friends... friend? I can't be fully sure.

Just... don't let the sounds of that ticking clock pass you by.

[Valerie]

Valerie followed The Doctor through a dimly lit hallway bathed in red light emitted from the few exit signs placed at every corner. This section of the building was normally off-limits to everyone. Still, The Doctor himself, and yet now, today of all days, he had insisted that she come along with him for a vague reason: to witness the fruits of his experimentation. A notion that sent chills down her spine, not only because the image of The Doctor working on an experiment was mortifying, but also because a result that he was eager to share couldn't have been one that any sane person would appreciate.

It also occurred to her that this could very well be another way for The Doctor to reinforce his methods of coercion, which only deepened the cracks forming in her stomach. The only thing she could do was to hold her composure and hold it tightly, lest it be taken for weakness. Though, it is strange that he hasn't asked for any bodies recently, which could mean that her usefulness is spent in his eyes, and now he is discreetly sending her out.

Deep down, Valerie wasn't sure whether or not to look forward to such a possibility.

After a few minutes, they arrive at a door no different from the dozens they have already walked past. The Doctor however, seems to recognize it instantly, pulling out a key from within his cloak and opening the door. Upon entering, Valerie notices something beyond the same poor lighting that plagued the hallways she just walked through, something that looks like a large pane of glass or plastic separating the room into two halves. What was in the other half, she couldn't fully see. The Doctor's figure blocked the majority of her sightline, but she could make out several deep claw marks engraved and craters smashed what she assumed to be reinforced concrete.

Once the door finally shut behind them, The Doctor moved out of the way, revealing the creature. Valerie blinked once, then twice, then three times. The creature had slender arms and legs, like Saran wrap was rolled around brittle bones, and serrated, dagger-like objects protruding from its fingertips and toes. Though, it wasn't the grotesque figure skittering around on all fours that made her hair stand up on end, but the color that made it up. It was pitch black, darker than darkness itself. It caused Valerie's vision surrounding the thing to become peppered with thousands of tiny, erratic dots of nothingness. Her blinking didn't help clear her vision, it just served to move those grains of sand around.
