#This file documents the properties of one's memories. Catalogued by Dr. Alphys.

The composition of the self is made of several flowing facets. Somehow, when certain physical and metaphysical aspects are melded into one being capable of comprehending not only the world around them but also the past and the future, a being is created. We are but three-dimensional beings at a standstill while a fourth-dimensional string passes through our existence, so how is it that we have developed the ability to dip into a spool far beyond us to recall the past or predict the future?

Setting aside our abilities of prophylaxis for now, let's speak more on the intricacies of memory, our desperate tugging at an intangible strip of yarn. As of current, this property of the mind hasn't been fully explored because experimentation on memories poses several ethical dilemmas that far exceed the potential gains of knowledge. We can only postulate on the mechanics that aid in its creation.

My interpretation of how memories work can be simplified with one key object. A stone tablet. Every second from the moment you come to be is tapped into this stone table by a chisel. Some instances are more impactful and others less, causing the impact of a moment to leave some engravings deeper than others. You can come review the tablet anytime you would like, but those markings are inherently faint. It would require repeated slams of the hammer to make those markings bolder and more visible in the sea of the ticks and marks.

Because that string of time is passing through us, there are moments we cannot reinforce without special capturing methods. Naturally however, being exposed to a moment in time only once makes it so that those markings the moment carves aren't fully accurate to the moment that has passed. All these moments can compound, making sense out of a single frame that might have been blurry, or reinforcing a flawed reality in which belief drives perception rather than the tangible.

The other half of this analogy is time, or the fourth-dimensional string. As it passes through this plan of existence, that tablet in your mind is eroded, like rocks in a rushing river. As time rushes by your stone table is slowly worn down until those faint markings fade, distort, and eventually disappear. Only through the reinforcement of those marks can they stand up against the torrents of time. Of course, hypothetically this can work in reverse. The temporal advancing of healing magic can possibly be used to target a section of that table to blur or even erase it. This is most likely how the Cold Eye of Judgement resets the memories of the banished.

Gods of Knowledge seem to be immune to this slow disintegration, as if we stand outside of the strand passing through the rest of the world, like our memories are etched infinitely deep such that nothing can wash them out or away. I have even tested this with the Cold Eye of Judgement on an isolated part of my memory, and the results show no differences before and after the spell had been cast. A God of Knowledge's theoretical placement outside of the string of time also makes me curious about the first-ever God of Knowledge, if their knowledge ever reached beyond the past and present.

Beyond noting the properties and behavior of memories, this area should be further investigated to fight against the recurring threat of the Thoughtless. Recently, they have been exhibiting behavior that indicates something more is happening beneath the surface of their dark exteriors. Garbled noises that imitate speech, intentional targeting of important resources during their attacks, strategic grouping to target weak links in our forces, and their sudden inclination to leave dead bodies alone instead of consuming them.

It is only a hypothesis of mine, but it makes me think that one, there must be somebody ordering these onslaughts, and two, that the Thoughtless weren't always that way. If we can develop a method to first revert their metaphorical stone tablets, then the testing of their antimatter state can be refined, and potentially, a way to reverse that state can be found.

The question being, how do we reverse the erosion of those stone tablets?

How do we reel back the casted line?

How do we retake what time has swept away from us?
