"Chara!"

"Yes?"

"Look at this cool necklace I found!"

Asriel held the necklace up by the end linking the two chains and locket together.

It was made of pure gold. Chains looped around and connected to form a circle. It would seem to be a regular piece of jewelry if not for the golden heart-shaped ornament at the end. It had a purple crystal embedded into the middle. For some reason, you feel that it's important in some way... or to someone.

"Where did you get this from? It looks important."

"Mom gave it to me! She said it was a family heirloom or something."

"Interesting... It's kind of cool I guess."

"Do you like it?"

"Well... I guess I do."

"Do you want it?"

"Whoa, that doesn't look like something to be giving away randomly. Plus, isn't it a family heirloom?"

"Is it wrong to consider you my family? Here just take it, I bet it will look pretty on you!"

"Asriel! don't just say things like that!"

"Why not?" He said pouting.

"Well—I—Ugh, just give me it."

"Haha! Look at you all flustered."

"Shut up!"

Asriel hands you the necklace. The chain feels cool to the touch... and yet the golden heart emanates a low warmth into your hands.

"Come on Chara! Put it on!"

"Oh alright! Hold your horses."

You unclipped the chain at the end and pulled it behind your neck.

"..."

"What's the holdup?"

"Are you sure you want to give this to me?"

"Of course. Why not?"

"..."

You feel for the other end of the chain. Fumbling around, you can't seem to connect the two ends.

"Asriel, can you help me with this?"

"Sure."

Asriel walks behind you.

"Careful of my wings Asriel."

"Yeah, yeah. Can you tuck them in?"

You grumble in annoyance.

You feel Asriel's warmth radiating near your neck.

*Click*

"There!"

You can feel the warming aura spreading from the heart to your chest.

"...Thanks."

/

"How are you today Chara?"

"I've been doing just fine."

"Wonderful! Are you here for something or just to see me?"

"Eh, a little of both I guess. I kinda want to talk to you about something."

"Oh! Would you like to chat over some pie?"

You can't help but to smile.

"That would be great. Thanks, Toriel."

She leads to you a nice and soft chair.

"Please, take a seat. I will be back shortly."

Toriel leaves the room.

...

Toriel returns with two slices of pie on separate plates.

"So, what was it you wanted to talk about?"

You pulled the golden heart from your robe. You can feel the slight tugging of the chains on the back of your neck.

"What is this Toriel?"

"Ah! I reckon Asriel gifted this to you."

"Mhm. He said something about it being a family heirloom."

"That, it is. Passed down for millions of years."

"... Aren't you mad that Asriel just randomly gave away something that important?"

"I wouldn't say it is "random". I'm sure that Asriel has his reasons for giving it to you. Besides, you know pretty well that we consider you a part of our family. I feel that it's fine that you kept hold of it."

"..."

"Is there something wrong?"

"No, it's nothing."

"... Would you like to learn more about this necklace?"

"Sure, why not."

"Right after you finish that pie. It's going to get cold."

"Fineeeee."

"Okay, let's begin."

"..."

"As you know, this necklace was passed down through the royal family for quite a long time. We don't know where it originated. Just that the very first member of the royal family was the one to obtain it."

You held the golden heart in your hands and wondered about its mysterious warmth.

"It has a strange purple crystal in the middle which to this day we still haven't figured out what it's made of."

"Hmph, what kind of god are you if you can't figure something as simple as the material of something?"

"Us gods are nothing like the way some humans portray us. We aren't omnipotent, nor are we immortal. We are a lot like humans in some ways. All we have is just some biology that makes us a little more complex than they are. This complexity allows us to have powers that seem like magic to them. This also allows us to specialize much much more than they can, giving the illusion of mastery over a specific idea."

"Yeah, yeah. I get it."

"Heh, I got a little off track, didn't I? It's not that big of a deal as there isn't much to explain anymore. We still don't know much about it. The only specific detail that was kept with us is that it's called "Royalty's Mercy", Whatever that means."

"Royalty's Mercy..."

"That's all Chara. Hopefully, all of that gives you some answers. Well... It was nice chatting with you. Would you like another slice of pie before you go?"

"No thank you Toriel. It was a pleasure talking with you."
