Chapter one hundred and fifteen
"We will get away, together."
Five years after the bridge when Scarlett had saved those people and brought them back to her group, she was put in front of their own version of a council "my name is Scarlett Grimes. Years ago my husband sacrificed his life so our people could live." Scarlett shared, seeing him standing on the bridge and pulling the trigger of the gun that was behind her along with her jacket and bag "we never found a body, so I had this belief that he was still out there, fighting to get back. And recently I found something that made that belief into a reality." she shared, thinking about the boots and the drawing of her and Judith.
She took a deep breath "I was on my way to the location he's supposedly at when I stumbled upon your people who looked like they needed my help, so I helped them. That's the only reason I am here. And I would gladly be on my way.." she was sharing "I wanna thank you." the woman told her, as Scarlett raised her brows "you don't have to thank me." she told her "I do. But then again, I don't know you and you don't know us. Which is why I wanna get to know you and tell you about our community." the woman shared.
"What you have her is great but I really need to.." Scarlett was saying "you can be an asset to this place, you know, if you don't find your husband." the woman told her "Elle, just give her a horse." Bailey told her, as he and Aiden were sitting behind her "no, no, I'm more concerned now if I'm allowed to leave." Scarlett shared, furrowing her brows "I didn't mean to offend you. You saved my sister's boyfriend and my sister. So we should talk about more than.." Elle was saying "just give her a horse and let her leave." Aiden said.
"I meant to say if you do find him, you could be part of this community, both of you." Elle shared "those people he sacrificed his life for? That's our community. Our kids are back there waiting for me to bring their father back. So like I've been saying, which you haven't been listening to is that I need to go." Scarlett shared "go where?" Elle asked "bridgers terminal up North." Scarlett told her "you don't want to go North. Not now. Stay with us until the migration is over." Elle shared "your kidding me right?" Scarlett asked "tristate area had millions of people before. Now they're the wailing. We don't know why, but this time of year, a lotta crowds, they move South. A couple months they move North, it'll be safe then." Bailey shared.
As Scarlett scoffed "safe." she said "just stay with us for a little while, get to know us." Elle told her "fuck you." Scarlett told her, standing up, she walked over to her stuff, putting her gun back in her holster and her jacket on, the door to the room opened "wait." Elle said, as the man slammed something down on the desk "I'm out. You know the rear guard tried to stop me from going after them? Of course you do. Because I keep this place going! Well, I'm done. I'm packing my wagon. I'm packing my wagon! And the rest of my goddamn toys, too. She was your sister, and they were my friends. This system is bullshit, Elle. We're strong enough to stop..we're strong enough to save people. What the hell is the point otherwise? I mean, jesus christ, she was your sister." he shared.
"Nat." Aiden said, as Nat turned to her and gasped "holy shit." he said, running over and hugging her, the two chuckled "what the hell happened?" he asked "I hurt my ankle." Bailey told her "I we..I went after both of you." Nat said, as Aiden crouched down "Nat, Nat, she saved us." she said, as Nat looked to Scarlett "and you just..brought them back?" he asked "they needed help." Scarlett told him "want your own wagon? You ride VIP with us from now on. Say the word." Nat shared "I am actually on my way out." Scarlett informed him "where?" Nat asked "bridgers shipyard up North." Scarlett told him.
"Well, shit. That's a stupid ass plan. You know about the migration? Five mile wide hordes of the wailing?" Nat asked "not a problem for me." Scarlett told him "lemme get you a horse. You can have your pick." Nat told her, going to walk out "Nat.." Elle told him "she can have her goddamn pick!" Nat voiced, as he began walking out, Scarlett followed along with Bailey and Aiden, as they headed downstairs and onto the road into the community that was people walking, riding horses or driving in their vehicles.
