It all started with a single sneeze.
Sunoo rarely ever got sick. As the sunshine of the group, he was always glowing with energy, his smile infectious, and his laugh brightening even the gloomiest of days. But today, as he shuffled into the dorm’s living room with a blanket wrapped around his slender frame, his usually vibrant aura seemed dimmed.
“Sunoo? Are you okay?” Jungwon was the first to notice, sitting up from his spot on the couch, concern etched across his face. His voice carried just enough panic to make the others pause.
“Yeah, I’m—" Before Sunoo could finish, he was cut off by a dramatic gasp from Jay, who had just entered the room with a bowl of cereal.
“He’s pale! Sunoo, when’s the last time you drank water? Ate something? Breathed properly?!”
“Jay, he’s not dehydrated, he’s just—”
“He looks like he’s dying!”
That comment sent the dorm spiraling into utter chaos.
“Wait, what?! Sunoo’s sick?!” Jake yelled as he sprinted out of his room, clutching a thermometer in one hand and a random scarf in the other. “He needs warmth! And medicine! And... Wait, what do I do first?” His Australian accent thickened with his panic as he fumbled with the thermometer, trying to turn it on.
“Move, I’ll handle this!” Heeseung strode in with the calm of someone who absolutely had no idea what he was doing. He was balancing a tray stacked with mismatched cups of water, tea, and an oddly gray bowl of soup. “I made this! It’s supposed to help! But... uh, it might taste a little... experimental.”
“Heeseung hyung, no one’s feeding Sunoo that!” Sunghoon snapped, entering the fray with a determined expression and his phone in hand. “I looked it up—he needs a steam inhalation. That’ll clear up his sinuses!”
“Steam?” Niki piped up from his perch on the couch, where he’d been playing video games moments ago. For once, his controller lay forgotten. “Are we boiling water? What if we make it too hot and he burns his face? Hyung, do you have insurance?!”
“Insurance?!” Sunoo croaked from under his blanket, his voice hoarse and feeble, but no one seemed to hear him over the escalating pandemonium.
“Move aside!” Jungwon clapped his hands, attempting to restore order. “We need to focus! Jake, stop panicking. Heeseung, get proper food. Sunghoon, the steam thing can wait. Niki, no one’s going to the hospital!”
“But what if he needs it?” Niki argued, pacing like an anxious puppy. “What if it’s serious? What if he—"
“It’s just a fever!” Jungwon’s voice cracked, his leaderly resolve crumbling under the weight of his own panic.
Meanwhile, Jay had disappeared into the kitchen, rummaging loudly through drawers and cabinets. “Where are the vitamins? We had them last week! Someone call the pharmacy!”
Jake finally managed to wrestle the thermometer on, triumphantly holding it up. “I got it! Sunoo, come here!”
“Guys...” Sunoo groaned, his voice muffled under the blanket. His heart warmed at the sight of their frenzy, though his headache throbbed from the noise. “It’s not that serious. I just need to sleep.”
“Sleep?!” Sunghoon reappeared with a humidifier in hand, plugging it into the nearest outlet. “Not until we’ve done everything to make you comfortable.”
“Comfortable?” Jake echoed, darting off and returning with an armful of pillows. “Here, Sunoo, take these! Do you need more? I’ll grab more!”
“He doesn’t need more pillows!” Jungwon facepalmed.
