The moon hung high, its silver light illuminating the sprawling mansion hidden deep within the woods. Its timeless architecture exuded an eerie beauty, whispering of centuries long past. Inside, Sunoo—an immortal vampire—moved gracefully through the halls, his presence commanding yet comforting.
Each of the six young men under his care had found their way to him in moments of despair. Heeseung, the eldest, had stumbled upon Sunoo after being hunted by cruel men for debts not his own. Sunoo had shielded him with his power, offering a safe haven. Jay and Sunghoon, orphaned brothers, had been on the brink of starvation when Sunoo found them, his heart aching at their plight. Jay, once a celebrated swordsman, had been betrayed and left for dead—Sunoo had nursed him back to health. Jungwon, a curious scholar, had sought Sunoo out, fascinated by the supernatural, and had stayed for the gentle wisdom Sunoo offered. And finally, Niki, the youngest, had been cast aside by the world, only to find a home with the vampire.
Sunoo’s sharp eyes scanned the dining hall, where his companions now sat. Each had their own space yet felt undeniably connected to him.
“Sunoo,” Niki piped up, leaning forward with a boyish grin. “Are you ever going to tell us your secret? Why you’re so strong? So…” He hesitated, a faint blush coloring his cheeks. “…irresistible?”
The room erupted in soft laughter, though everyone silently acknowledged the truth of his words. Sunoo’s charisma wasn’t just due to his vampiric nature—it was his care, his patience, the way he knew each of their hearts better than they did themselves.
Heeseung, ever the leader among the six, reached over and ruffled Niki’s hair. “Don’t push your luck, kid. Sunoo’s already given us more than we deserve.”
Sunoo smiled faintly, stepping closer. “You all deserve love, safety, and a place to belong. That’s why I chose you.” His voice was smooth, like velvet, drawing everyone’s attention. “But if you’re curious…” He trailed off, a mischievous glint in his crimson eyes.
Jay leaned forward, resting his chin on his palm. “We’re listening, Sunoo. Tell us about yourself. For once, let us in.”
The vampire tilted his head thoughtfully, his pale fingers trailing along the edge of the table. “I’ve lived for centuries,” he began, his tone nostalgic. “I’ve seen kingdoms rise and fall, witnessed humanity’s triumphs and tragedies. But love…” His gaze swept over them, filled with warmth. “…that was always elusive. Until I met all of you.”
Jake frowned slightly. “We’re just… humans. How could we possibly be enough for someone like you?”
Sunoo stepped closer to Jake, crouching beside his chair. “You underestimate your worth, Jake. Each of you has shown me what it means to care again. To love without fear.”
Sunghoon cleared his throat, his usual stoic demeanor cracking. “You’ve done more for us than we can ever repay.”
Sunoo’s hand brushed Sunghoon’s, a silent gesture of reassurance. “Love isn’t about repayment. It’s about giving freely, without expecting anything in return.”
