Applicant #38: My Dearest

My Dearest Dane,

First of all, I would like to tell you that I'm okay here in Saudi. Three more countries to go and I can go home. I just want to tell you that I'm okay, at least physically.

I'll always remember the first time we met. You were too innocent and aloof. I thought you were a boring person. But when we became seatmates in almost all of my subjects, and I had a chance to talk and spend time with you, I was wrong. 'Cause you are the weirdest, funniest and the most beautiful girl I've ever met. You are socially awkward. And I was the playboy kind of guy. We were so opposite but we never cared at all. All that we know is that we are happy when we are together. And one day I just woke up and the first thing that comes to my mind was you. And later realized that you... You are the one I wanted to spend th rest of my life with. We became soul mates, partners in crime, best friends and a couple. I've never been so in love despite of all my past relationships. And you were broken that time and depressed. But I always try to make it all okay. You wanted love from your family but since I can't give you that, I gave you my love instead. You always encourage me to be who I am and do what I want. When I told you that I want to join the Army, you didn't laugh at me and told me I am up to no good and I am weak. Instead, you cried because you are proud of me. You said that I will be a good soldier— a good leader. That you've fallen in love with me even more because of what I chose to be. The first day that I've been officially became a soldier, I became indecisive. Because I have so much places to go to because of the war, and I have no more chance to spend time with you or at least see you. I was scared because I don't want to leave you. But I left you, because you said so. I can still remember the exact worss you said to me when I said that I can't leave you for this. "I will wait for you. I love you and I will always will. After the war, I will wait for you and we will get married."

But why did you leave?

I received the news from your friend. I thought you have fallen out of love or already replaced me. But what you did was worse.

This is my last letter, since you can't possibly read this there.

I'm sorry. I shouldn't have left you broken. I should have stayed. I was your only one, and I just left you.

I saved the country, but I can't even save you.
