Having received news that Percy was missing, Annabeth was in an everlasting grief and depression. When her efforts to find him had all ended up in vain at the end of the day, it struck even worse. Without realizing it, she was slowly decorating her bunk with the little gifts and trinkets that Percy had given her, or anything that reminded her of him. Seashell wind-chimes. The coral pendant he gave her. Their first ever Polaroid picture together. Happy faces and the look of love. Love. It hurt her. Her heart ached for him, and all that she could do was decorate her surroundings with the pieces of him that he left behind.
