Annabeth woke up with the sun rays blinding her eyes. She glanced at her clock. 7:00 am. She dropped back into bed. Go back to sleep, her mind said. No she was too excited. It was her and Percy's third anniversary as a couple.
Last year, he took her out to dinner in candlelight by the seaside. And before that, he brought her to a museum all on architecture and had some real fun at a carnival that same night. It was also his birthday each time. She rolled out of bed, got dressed and bounced out of her cabin and to Percy's cabin. She knocked.
"Percy!! Wake up! Special day today!!" She had no intention of it, but her voice had seemed like she stirred a few campers fom their sleep. Her voice echoed through camp as she mumbled a silent apology even though she didn't really care. Annabeth waited for a while. There was no answer. She frowned. It wasn't like him to not answer. Especially if it was her.
She opened the door a little and peeked inside. She knew it was against camp rules to be in other cabins unless invited. But since this was her boyfriend's cabin, she knew he wouldn't mind. she looked around frantically. Percy wasn't there. His bed wasn't made up though. She rolled her eyes. Typical Seaweed Brain. But she was still wondering... Where was he?
"Well what a way to start our anniversary." she grumbled. She shut the door to his cabin made her way towards the breakfast table where she still saw no sign of Percy. She slumped into her seat over at the Athena table.
"Hey Wise Girl!! Why the long face? Isn't today a special day" a cheery voice called.
Annabeth looked up. There, grinning at her stupidly like he always did, was her Seaweed Brain.
"Percy! Where were you?! I was out of my mind with wo-"
Percy chuckled. " Woah calm down Annie. I was just preparing a little surprise for you. It's our anniversary right? And my birthday." he grinned happily.
Annabeth's worry melted. She smiled. "Yes birthday boy. Happy 19th birthday!!" She got up, stood on the tip of her toes and planted a kiss on his cheek. "Your gift is in my cabin. You don't mind if I give you one for both of the occasions, right?"
He pouted. "But I'm special. I deserve two."
Annabeth kissed him. "That's your first gift."
"Okay. Not arguing."
"Now let me go to my cabin. Your other gift's in there." She started to walk off but Percy caught up with her. "Wait. I'll go with you." He had this really excited look on his face.
When they reached Cabin 6, right at the doorway, Percy closed her eyes. "Percy?"
He kept quiet. He steered her over to her bed. Then, he took away his hand. Annabeth opened her eyes and stared at what was before her.
Her bed had been completely remodeled. It was light blue and had silver lining. Her pillows became a colour too much like Percy's sea-green eyes. It the center was a small gold wrapped parcel tied with a grey ribbon. But what shocked her were the walls. The wall next to her bed had always been used to stick some of her favourite blueprints. But now, in their place were pictures of her and Percy together throughout the years. There was the one where she was soaking wet after Percy purposely summoned waves to tip over their canoe. Then another was a victory shared by them when they won a Capture The Flag game. One by one the pictures brought a smile to her lips.
Percy stood there quietly, as if waiting for a reaction. Annabeth flung her arms around him. "Oh Percy when did you do this? It's wonderful." He smiled. "That's not all." He pressed a button on the side of her bed frame. Immediately the wall turned to the other side and revealed her old wall, blueprints and sketches and all. "How...?" she muttered. She scanned the wall. There was no logical explaination for the wall. Then again, hardly anything logical happens in a demigod's life.
He winked. "Hephaestus cabin's works." He admired it for a while then turned his attention to back to Annabeth."Do you like it?" he asked hopefully.
"Of course I do Percy! It's wonderful. Now where's your gift?" She found it and gave it him. She didn't wrap it it. It was a glistening imperial gold sword. His name was etched into the hilt of the sword. Of course he had Riptide which always reappeared in his pocket regardless the amount of times he were ever to throw it away but like Annabeth says always, always have a backup. "All the the way from Camp Jupiter." He tried to test it out but Annabeth stopped him. "Not in here!"
"Right." Then he picked up his gift for her. "Open your present." he urged.
Annabeth took the golden box and opened it, displaying a owl shaped diamond neacklace. In the center of the owl was a green heart shaped jade, where there was a letter 'A'.
Instead of saying how nice it was, Annabeth just pulled Percy towards her and hugged him.
"Thank you. Thank you for making this the best anniversary I could ever have. I hope to have one like this for every single one of our anniversary's. Thank you."
"Do you know why I do these? Because I love you Annabeth. And nothing's ever gonna change that."
She gazed into his eyes and kissed him. "I love you Percy."
"I love you too Annabeth."
