For Christmas, Leo gave each of his closest friends (which meant the rest of the Seven) bells with patterns which represented their personality and godly parent. It was moderately sized, and they rested perfectly in the palm of the holder. They were odd gifts, but good ones.
For Jason, it was light blue with white at the rim. In gold letters, his name was spelled out and in the background was a lightning bolt. At least, one half was. The other half was a clear blue sky, with clouds and birds. On that side, he put in 'Sparky.'
For Piper, it was a very, very light pink, almost white, and had a picture of a rose in the middle. On the five biggest petals were each letter of Piper's name. It may have sounded too feminine, but Leo also added the stem with a lot of thorns. In spiky writing, 'Beauty Queen' was written on the other side.
Hazel's was a unique one, split into 5 sections; gold, emerald, ruby, sapphire and the most precious, diamond. Her name was inscribed a letter in each section all around the bell and it glistened in the light. Don't ask Leo where he got the gems. Just, don't. He decided not to put in her nickname because he thought it looked pretty cool just like that. Also, most of the space was taken up perfectly.
Frank's was completely red, with a golden Chinese symbol. Leo assumed it meant Frank, but doing deeper research, he found out it meant turtle but it was too late. Well... technically Frank could turn into a turtle, so he wasn't exactly wrong. He wrote his name properly underneath the symbol. On the other side, CCBM were written. Leo just wrote that because Chinese Canadian Baby Man was too long.
Annabeth's were simply silver with hint of grey, so it sparkled with a greyish tinge in the sunlight. Annabeth's name was painted neatly across the bell and the other side had pictures of owls. Leo decided not to try his luck and dared not to put in a nickname.
At last, Percy's was sea green with a bit of blue. The picture looked like it took place underwater. There were fishes and sea folk, aquatic creatures of every kind. In five bubbles, Percy's name was written. The background was a kingdom, with mermen and dolphins swimming around. Poseidon's kingdom. His nickname on the other side? Aqua man.
He also made one for Calypso and Nico that were special too.
Calypso's was flowery and and looked like a garden. There was a fountain, just like the one he repaired, and the centerpiece was spewing out water. Carefully, he wrote out her name on a bed of flowers, making sure it stood out. A ray of sunshine shone down on the scene portrayed on the bell. On that ray, 'Sunshine' was spelled out. Literally, Sunshine in sunshine.
For Nico's... Leo wasn't really sure how he should've done it. It was black. Just, pure black. With green fires blazing. And his name spelled out in skeletal writing. Leo debated whether or not he should put a rainbow sticker on it. As much as he wanted to write Zombie Dude, he didn't do it. Though he really wanted to. And the rainbow sticker too.
He wrapped them in boxes, colour coded, and gave the gifts to his friends. They were packaged tightly in the box. They liked it, even Nico, but didn't take them out of the packaging. They just looked at it at a first glance. Percy asked, "What do they do? I mean, they're bells but what do we use them for?"
Leo shrugged. "Nothing really. Just, you know, ding dong bells." he said, trying to hide his smile.
"Huh." Percy replied and was the first to properly examine his bell out of the packaging. He shook it a bit. "It's a pretty cool-"
"HO HO HO!" the bell 'rang.'
All of them, excluding Leo, jumped back in surprise. "Oh yeah." Leo snapped his fingers. "And it does that too! Merry Christmas guys!"
And Leo ran off, grinning, leaving his confused friends behind. It was only momentary confusion, because they knew that it was a total Leo thing to do. Percy, especially, loved it. He now knew what to do to get Annabeth's attention.
But the true meaning behind it was that Leo had sacrificed so much time just to work on them, so intricately and delicately. He was no artist, but he poured out everything he could into hand painting and shaping them when he could've used a machine. And at the same time, still managing to add some humor into them using his abilities. The true meaning was how much labour he went through to perfect them for his friends. How much he loved them and cared for them just to make the gifts perfect.
