I fell. I don't know where I am now. This place is so unfamiliar to me, I'm kind of afraid. There are people walking around dressed funny. I stood up and looked around as people brushed past me. People? They didn't look like people at all actually. They were furry, some had scales, there were dinosaurs, and so much more. Of course, I had my face covered so they couldn't see me. I made my way quickly through the crowd, apologizing to everyone I bumped into. I needed to find a way back home, I know they would be worried sick about me. I need to find another person like me, another human, someone that could help me get back home. I found some abandoned building and ran inside even though it didn't look very safe, it was better than being around all of those strangers. I pull out my phone to try and make a phone call, but the screen wouldn't stop glitching. It was useless at this point, not knowing where I was or what would happen, I had to find the quickest way to adapt. You know, I should probably start from the beginning.
"Michael, what are you doing today?" I asked looking at him sitting on the couch.
"I don't know. It's summer vacation and we're in the our parents house near the creek and not far is a mountain. The people that are about an hour away from here in the city seem to have stuff to do, but we don't seem to have a car. The woods are filled with strange creatures, you decide how you want to die." He says sarcastically and I just roll my eyes.
"Fine, I'll find something to do on my own then." I say stomping out of the house.
"Wait Ray, come back, I was joking. You know mom will kill me if something were to happen to you." He yells running out after me.
"Well catch up slow poke. I wood-n't want to leaf you behind." I reply laughing, running deeper into the woods.
"You and your terrible puns Ray!" He yells out.
"I should probably wait for him in case he gets lost." I say aloud. I know my way around the woods very well. I come out here every summer, this is only Michael's second Summer here with me and he thinks I need to be watched.
"Ray! Where are you?" He calls out and I just chuckle.
"I'm over here near the creek!" I call out and I feel something brush against my leg. As I look down I'm suddenly tackled to the ground with a slobbery wet tongue going across my face. "Woah, calm down there you two." I say sitting up and they bark. "Chiller and Reaper, what are you guys doing here?" I question as they crowd my face. The all black wolf with a grey patch on his nose and white patches on his eyes was Reaper and the Grey wolf with white paws and black patches on around his eyes was Chiller. I've known them since we were pups.
"Ray! Are you okay?!" Michael yells. "Get away you beasts!" They turn and look at him as I sit up with a wet face.
"Calm down Michael." I say and he looks confused. "Look, mom will be home soon so I'll go and get berries for the pie. You can head back to the house and set up the kitchen for me." I say.
"But I don't know the way back to the house." He replies.
"Don't worry, Reaper will guide you to the house." I say as Reaper walk over to Michael''s side. "I'll have Chiller with me. He's great at finding berries."
"But what if something happens to you?" He says.
"Look, I have Chiller with me. He and Reaper can communicate, but if you are that concerned..... hand me something to write on." I say as he digs through his pockets and digs our an old receipt and he hands it to me. "On this note, I'll write down the very last location I was before I leave the berry bushes and I will leave it with Chiller." I say walking away.
"Alright." He says and we part ways, I make my way to the berry bushes and begin to pick some, putting them in the basket I always leave there. I hear a strange noise, but Chiller doesn't seem to react negatively and so I continue to pick them. Once I finished picking the berries, I head down to the creak to wash my hands and the berries. I hear more noises and this time Chiller starts to bark. I grabbed the bushels and made my back to the house. Then I heard a yelp, it was Chiller. I dropped the basket and ran back to see a pack of wolves from the other side of the mountains approaching him. I called for Chiller and he came running back and I followed behind him. I stopped and wrote on the little paper, 'WOLVES' and kept going seeing Chiller waiting for me. I put the note in his mouth and we continued on. We got separated when a wolf jumped between me and him and I just told him to go and he ran toward the house and I ran toward the mountain. I normally avoided them because it was dangerous, there was always places you could fall into and never get out. I've seen people climb this mountain time after time, but I'm sure they knew of the legend and even if they didn't, I wouldn't tell, it wasn't my job to interfere with someone else dreams, false dreams. I hated when people disappeared, but for the most part, it didn't bother me. There was always mysterious disappearances in this forest, adults, children, even animals. Chiller and Reaper, they came from that mountain, I found them near the cave entrance and not far from it was their mother, dead. I took them in and raised them every Summer and they became attached to house, waiting for me to return. Then suddenly, I tripped. The last thing I heard was a howl and that's how I knew Chiller made it home alright. Unfortunately, this would be the last time they saw me. Take care of them for me, Michael.
