I walk back in the house and hug Viper again before he goes. Mom and Michael descend from the steps and walk through the living room. It looked as though a tornado had come through. Broken glass and pictures everywhere.
"Ray, are you alright?!" My mom runs up to me and Michael is right behind her.
"You're quite the pup." Michael says and it triggers a memory causing me to cry.
"What's wrong? Are you hurt?" She asks.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings." Michael says.
"It just reminded me of something. That's all." I say wiping my eyes. "I'm fine." Reaper and Chiller walk over and rub against my legs.
"Why don't you rest up and we'll clean this up." Mom says.
"Nah, I can help. I wouldn't have made the mafia if I slacked off." I say stretching. I grab the broom.
"Um, Ray, how about you deal with these guys first." Michael says pointing to the wolves sitting outside if the house.
"Oh right." I say rubbing my forehead. I walk up to the doorway without a door. "I'm assuming you guys have no place to go." I say to the pack of 10 wolves in front of me. They give me silence. "Well, do what you want. You can either stay with me, or roam free."
"What if they attack again?" Michael questions concerned.
"They won't. I'm recognized as the alpha here and in this case, they obey the alpha." I explain. The wolves get up and walk toward the house. They start cleaning up, picking pieces of wood and moving stuff around.
"What the--" My mom looks baffled.
"Looks like they want to stay here. I guess they were jealous because of how spoiled those two are and they wanted me out of the picture." I say laughing.
"How many of you would stay here with mom and watch over the house? Come in here and sit down." I say and 6 wolves came in and sat down. "That means the other 6 would follow me wherever I go."
After a couple of hours, we finally finished cleaning and I headed to the garage to sleep.
"Honey, are you not going to your room?" My calls out.
"I have 12 wolves on my hands, I don't have the bed for that." I say laughing as they scoot in closer and cuddle me. "I have to think of names for the majority of you guys." I say falling asleep. In the morning, I was awaken by licks and paws playfully digging at stomachs. I open my eyes and look around.
"Honey, breakfast is almost ready!" My mom yells to me. I make my way into the the kitchen where I find a line of bowls leading into the living room.
"Since when did we have so many dog dishes?" I ask.
"Remember when you refused to eat out of an actual bowl." She says and I start blushing out of embarrassment.
"Right. I forgot all about that." I say looking at my plate. After I eat, the wolves and I head out into the forest to explore more, I find more berry bushels and they lead me to a what seems like an oasis filled with fruit trees. I pick enough for them to have one a piece and one for me to eat as well.
"Bark!"
"Huh? Oh, don't worry about it." I reply.
"Bark, bark."
"Yeah, I can understand. I was raised by wolves after all. Did you really think I was that oblivious." I say looking at all black one. "Knight."
'So is there any other animal language you know besides ours?" Knight questions.
"No, not in the slightest. I mean I've heard these weird noises in my dreams, but they didn't start til after these guys had attacked me. Then a skeleton thing would pop up." I explain.
'Skeleton thing?' Another wolf asks me. I look over and see an all white wolf.
"Well, Moon. It was like, I knew them, but I couldn't figure it out. He spoke with his hands a lot. Which was strange because I was able to understand." I explain.
'Wait, are you naming us as you go?" The red-brown wolf questions.
"You caught me, Karma." I say sticking out my tongue. All of our heads turn simultaneously. "Mom is calling." I say and we all make our way back to the house. I walk in and the smell one of my favorite kind of pie fills my nose. Blueberry, but Butterscotch is way better.
'Mom? What is a mom?' Knight questions.
"A mom is a person that will take care of you. Kind of like me, I'm going to take care of all you. So, don't think of me as Alpha, but as someone you can come to for something." I explain rubbing Knight's head.
'So you're our mom even though you didn't give birth to any of us?' He questions.
"I should be questioning why you are so curious, but hey. You don't have to call me mom if you don't want to, call me what you want. You can call me Ray, Pup, Boss, anything you want." I say.
'Pup sounds a little weird and Ray is your human name. We can just call you Boss.' The white, black, brown wolf says.
"Again, call me what you want, Hunter." I say smiling.
'Do we all agree to call her Alpha?' Hunter questions and they all agree.
"Is it normal for a female to be the Alpha of the male pack?" I ask already knowing the answer.
'Well of course not, not without a male alpha. That doesn't even sound right.' The all grey wolf with cloud like patches on fur says.
"Well Dream, I am in fact a female and I am in fact leading a pack of wolves by myself, but don't worry, I'm not taken down easily." I say as I walk in the house and there I saw my mother sitting there with a suitcase.
"Ray, we need to talk. Please come sit down on the couch." She says patting the seat next to her. The look in her eyes made me worry a little. Is everything okay?
