Chapter 25: Spectra's lair.

Beat was waiting for Vinnie to do his job while he was reading a newspaper. He knew that now that he had to do his job to protect Erina, the policemen wouldn't let him check nothing. A cop went to talk with Beat.
-Policeman: Hey murderer. Why are you here? Because you are a monster hunter? Get out of here, you freak!
-Beat: Two thousand years and a little more and a virus changed the world and the people still is the same... When you are fine, you try to search for honor and mercy. But as any human and as any monster you throw all of your honor and mercy and kill the others only to survive or to establish an idea that others oppose. This way of thinking makes me sick... But who I'm to talk of it? Only a good hunter.
-Policeman: Freak until the end...
-Beat: At least I don't hide the fact that I'm cheating on my wife, not like you. Because I'm not married. In your neck.
-Policeman: How you dare!?
In the neck of the cop there was a hickey, and it seemed to have been done only a few minutes ago. Also the same cop was wearing a ring and it was an expensive one. The policeman left angry. Beat was smiling.

Meanwhile, in a abandoned manor, there was a tall skeleton wearing a leather jacket, blue jeans and a pair of army boots sleeping. Near of him there was a little girl with brown hair, black eyes, wearing a pink pajama that had a cute face but she was totally terrified. Near of them a man that had the appearance of a cockroach that was walking on it's two legs was smiling.
-???: When I have the money... I'll just kill the girl. Yeah, it'll be a good punchline for that joke of a monster hunter called Beat.
-Iris: Please sir, let me leave... Please.
-???: Your father is dead. And your mother... Well, she'll die when I grab someone worth.
-Iris: Why sir!?
-???: Causing a war. As all my dear friends want. Well... Lately we had some issues thanks to Beat...
-Iris: Causing a war!? We haven't suffered enough!?
-???: No. Until the monsters or the humans are exterminated, the fun won't finish.
-Iris: You are a crazy guy!
-???: Thanks!

After a pair the hours, Vinnie found a sample of a special sound in a computer that repeated each 5 minutes. He sent it to Trish and she did a sound device that played a total opposite sound that neutralized the sound made by the spectra and gave 3 of those devices to Vinnie who went back to Iris family house and gave the devices to Beat and Erina and kept one for himself.
-Beat: Finally! Now with this we can do our job.
-Vinnie: Trish worked really hard in this.
-Erina: I should warn my father...
-Vinnie: Erina, do that and I knock you out. That old man surely looks for a new badge. And more if Beat had to kill the butler to protect you.
-Erina: He isn't greedy neither has big objectives! Trust in him!
-Beat: I would love... but you know how they call the monster hunters? Freaks. Your father is one of the few that hasn't said that yet.
-Erina: And you fear that he'll ask for devices for the others... So you want to make sure that we catch that Spectra.
-Beat: Well, I have a pair of questions to do. And only Iris can answer me.
-Erina: Then... time to wait. I'll go to drink water for a moment.
Erina leaves.
-Vinnie: Be honest. You want her to capture it. Only to finish with the police reputation? Or I can start dreaming with money?
-Beat: You know, I love to make angry the government. And that a total newbie outsmarts the police? That's a sure hard hit to the government!
-Vinnie: (Laughs) That's being a bastard!
-Beat: (Smiles) I would love to see Francis face when he sees this...
-Vinnie: Worth of paying!
-Beat: Yeah!
Then another gunshot is heard.
-Beat: I'm having a bad feeling...
-Vinnie: Me too...

Beat and Vinnie go to where the gunshot was done and Erina's father was looking terrified because his own men were trying to kill him and Erina. Beat grabbed Erina's arm and pulled her far from her own father.
-Beat: Go to the car and grab sleep grenades. They are in the trunk, near the shotgun.
-Erina: Okay!
Erina runs to Beat's car. Beat grabs a chair and sits in it.
-Beat: Hey, how's going there?
-Erina's Father: You aren't going to help me?
-Beat: A cop asks a freak to kill his own companions? Hmmm.... Not feeling enough bloodlust to kill them.
-Erina's Father: I know that my people treats you poorly, and that I was harsh before. Now I understand why you decided to kill the butler. You prevented more deaths.
-Beat: Nice! At least you learn something.
A gunshot hits in Erina's Father arm and it starts bleeding a lot.
-Beat: Want some salt with that?
-Erina's Father: Are you angry with me?
-Beat: I've been holding this for a while. Vinnie, grab some bandages.
-Vinnie: Okay.
Vinnie leaves.
-Beat: How much you know of Erina's family? Answer.
-Erina's Father: So you know that already.
-Beat: When the damned Francis had a daughter? And how the hell you married with her?
-Erina's Father: It happened before he was in the goverment. And I was lucky and stubborn.
-Beat: I'll make sure that Erina catches the spectra. Francis killed my first companion. I was young, stupid but had my power. Francis wanted to make my first companion to marry a cop. It backfired. But he made sure that she died. And helping Erina is my duty.
-Erina's Father: Nice idea.
Erina arrives with the grenades and throws them all. Not even Beat could avoid falling asleep.
