Chapter 21: The grumpy, the good and the cute

After several days...

Beat was sleeping like usually, Erina got used to see Beat sleeping and usually while Beat is sleeping she takes easy errands and easy cases to do and trains her aim even if she doesn't want to kill any monster if possible. Everyone in White Hope is surprised with Erina because she really seems dependable and humble. Sylvia seems very happy with her growth as a monster hunter. In a little more than a month she is better than many average monster hunters and that as always carries one trouble: Every monster hunter corporation wants her as a member and she has already a club of fans thanks to some people she has helped while taking easy cases on her own.

Beat is really not happy with Erina taking easy cases and solving them on her own. Beat fears that something might happen to her and he wants her to be safe. And there has been several fights between Erina and Beat in that subject. After Cynthia's case, Beat has become a little overprotective over Erina. Many people say that Beat has fallen finally for Erina but that is wrong, he only fears that she dies too as all of his companions. Still, Erina understands Beat a little but she decided that she couldn't be doing always all with Beat.

Today Sylvia is going to wake up Beat again and has called Erina to come to Beat's office. Sylvia wakes Beat up with the usual shooting and Beat wakes up.
-Sylvia: Today, you two work together again, finally. A girl has been kidnapped, maybe it is a skeleton's job. They are way too used to do that if you ask my opinion.
-Beat: (yawns) Also it could be vampires, Sylvia. We are talking of a girl. But why we do that job?
-Erina: Because we are free and that means more job to us!
-Beat: Yeah, that's good but something smells fishy.
-Sylvia: And jackpot! It's the daughter of a friend of an important member of the royalty. Also she is called the cutest girl of the royalty.
-Beat: Which as usually means that maybe she has escaped home.
-Erina: Well, if that's so there must be a reason.
-Beat: Yeah. I hope that she has a good one if she has escaped from her house.
-Sylvia: She dissapeared in a closed room, all closed. By the way, Erina's father is the detective from the police in this case.
-Beat: We are lucky today. Your dad might help us, Erina.
-Erina: I think that he won't. He is nice out of the job but he won't disclose information of the police like others.
-Beat: (Sighs) Life is never easy.
-Sylvia: Yours is the easiest one! From time to time you take a case without bringing Erina and you do it in a moment! Since you do your reports, no one knows that you are working in a different case each day!
-Erina: But I always see Beat sleeping...
-Beat: You fell for that too? It's a decoy. Sylvia wakes me up with a round of bullets, I grab my coffee, my gun and my plaque and I go to fulfill cases. 5 or 6 hours later I go back to write the report and I rest a little. And then I start working in another case if I have finished the one I took.
-Sylvia: And with the money we get with that, we can keep all White Hope in perfect conditions.

Erina looked at Beat surprised. She was usually near of him and never noticed him preparing a decoy and leaving. But surprisingly, Beat is quick enough that when Erina looks away he has already left the decoy.
-Beat: Well, let's go. Call Vinnie to come too.
-Sylvia: He is on his way there. I'll give you the address.
Sylvia wrote in a paper the address and gave it to Beat. Beat got his weapon, his plaque and went with Erina to his car and drove to the residential district.

The house of the family was a big manor with 3 floors, a big garden where there was trees, a small pool, and a lot of different plants, each more exotic than the previous one and two garages, one for the father and the other for the mother and her daughter.
In the first floor there was, 6 bathrooms, 6 rooms for guests, the bedroom of her daughter, a storage room where there was all of machines for doing exercise and 3 kitchens.In the second floor only there was a library that was filled with many books, from novels of mistery to college books. In the third room there was a safety room, where the family could hide and survive during 3 months in case of attack, an armory filled with shotguns and pistols to protect the house if needed and the parents bedroom.

Erina looked the house with a surprised face, that house was the biggest manor she had seen in all of her life. Only by looking Erina's face you could know that she wasn't used to see such houses and that house was really expensive. The father of Erina got out of the house with a brown jacket, white shirt under that jacket, black jeans and black shoes.
-Erina's Father: Erina! You are here too! A pleasure to see you, but you know how this works...
-Erina: I know dad. You won't help us in anything. Mostly your career would be on thin ice if you did that.
-Beat: A pleasure to see you here, Mr Hell.
-Erina's father: The parents of the girl called you both?
-Beat: I brought her here.
-Erina: I'll go to talk with the girl's parents.
-Beat: Okay, see you later.

Erina leaves.
-Erina's Father: My daughter solves cases on her own too, I'm right?
-Beat: As much as I hate to admit it, yes.
-Erina's Father: Why you hate to admit it?
-Beat: She almost got killed in our second case. The succubus had many people as livestock, she did not want to kill them all, and the succubus used that in her advantage.
-Erina's Father: But she was saved. And she has captured many monsters lately, doing small cases.
-Beat: Indeed, but I don't know if she'll be fine...
-Erina's Father: She's smart, Beat. She can survive on her own. She's so smart that it wouldn't surprise if she knew that you are worried that way.
-Beat: But she's way too stubborn...
-Erina's Father: A tip. Let her do. You cannot stop her.
-Beat: I noticed that already. (Sighs) Well, let's hope that all goes well.

Beat and Erina have a new case. It'll go well or the girl has her fate sealed? Who knows!
