Wilmer's POV
The bell ring rang and all of our students started to get back into our classes.
—Talk to you then —Demi said pecking my lips fast before someone could see us.
—Hi Mr. Wilmer! —Violet smiled at me—. What lesson do we have now? —she asked, taking her seat.
I was looking at her, but not really listening. I was over thinking about everything.
—Mr. Wilmer —Cooper called me—. Miss Demi left her jacket here. —he raised and showed it to me.
—Can I go give it back to her? —Aaron asked excitedly.
—No, Aaron —I told him seriously—. It's time to start our literature lesson and she will be doing the same. I'll give it to her later.
I handed them some books and they read and wrote a summary about them. With that, time to leave school arrived. The children left the room and I started to relocate their desks correctly, putting some dictionaries we used in their corresponding bookcases and preparing my lessons for the next day.
When I finished, I took my shoulder bag, Demi's jacket and I closed the room with the keys. Then I headed to her classroom so I could give the jacket back to her, but I realized she had already left school. I took my phone and I had a text message from her.
Baby❤: I left school earlier 2day bc I have 2go 2 my parents' to help Mad with a school project! Ttyl, love youuuuuu!
I texted her back:
Me: Ok! Good luck! Btw, u left ur jacket at my class! I got it!
I went downstairs to the parking ready to go back home, while I said goodbye to the teachers I met on the way. I drove thinking about what I had to do. I needed to find those ultrasound scans to confirm myself if I was that baby's father.
I parked my car in front of my apartment's door and I got out. I took my keys and my phone which had buzzed some seconds ago.
Baby❤: shit! Have my head in the clouds 2day! Thx! I'll come around later 2 take it!
I typed:
Me: Great!
I got inside home and I looked around to know if I was alone or if Lucía was home. I came into the kitchen, left my bag on the table and I took a sip of a bottle of water from the fridge. That's when I saw the note Lucía had left me stuck there: "I'll go shopping for our little one!! I'll be back around 7pm!"
Perfect! I ran to Lucía's bedroom and started to search through all her drawers: make-up, pajamas, shirts, books... were some of the stuff I found. I was about to give up when I remembered I still had a drawer to look at: her underwear one. I was quite embarrassed to look there, but I had to.
I started to take out her lingerie and I threw them to the floor nervously, when I suddenly found a white envelope in the bottom of the drawer. I took it out and examined it for some seconds until I read her full name "María Lucía González Díaz" next to the hospital's logo. That was it.
I pressed the envelope to my chest while I took a deep breath. I opened it and some pictures of her last ultrasound scans fell to the floor. Fast, I took the last one and looked at the top of it which said: May 6th, 23 weeks pregnant. I started to count the months back, realizing Demi was right. 23 weeks were six months, and six months ago counting down from May 6th, it was the first week of December.
