"Now I know how you felt before you met my family; I'm shook - and not the good kind." Josh chuckles at me.
"Babe, you'll be fine. They're gonna love you."
"Sure?"
"Certain. Look, here we are now." Josh gets out of the car that has pulled up in front of ordinary looking house, although I know that behind the doors, my boyfriend's family is waiting to meet me.
"Let's do this!" I say, hopping out of the car. Me and Josh head up the drive, and he knocks on the door. I see a young woman with light brown hair walk toward us and opens the door.
"Josh, it's lovely to see you again. And this must be Y/N. Hey, Y/N, I'm Ashley." I notice she has the same mocha eyes as Josh.
"Hello, Ashley, it's lovely to meet you," I say, going to shake her hand, but she hugs me. I'm a bit surprised, but hug her back.
"C'mon in to meet the rest of us." Me and Josh follow her into the living room where an older woman with brown hair suddenly gets up from reading a book on the sofa to embrace Josh.
"Joshy, it's so lovely to see you again. I missed you so much."
"It's great to see you again, Mom. This is my girlfriend, Y/N." He points to me.
"Hi, I'm Y/N," I say shyly.
"Aw, hello Y/N. It's lovely to meet you. I'm Laura. Josh has told me so much about you." She hugs me.
Josh blushes.
"Mom, please, you're embarrassing me." I suddenly hear someone running down the stairs.
"So I see my cranky older brother finally got himself a girlfriend." A voice says. I look up to see a young man who has black hair that's slightly curly, and the same mocha eyes as Josh and Ashely.
"Jordan, this is Y/N. Y/N, this is Jordan, my more handsome younger brother," Josh jokes.
"Hey, it's nice to meet you." Jordan says, hugging me.
"Oh, yeah," I laugh.
"Hey, Mom, where's Abigail and Dad?" Jordan asks Laura. Josh has his arm around me, and I lean into him.
"Oh, they're out in the garden. And you two, sit down, sit down," Laura says, making us both sit down on the sofa. She goes to the backdoor and calls Abigail and Josh's dad, and then comes back and sits next to Josh.
"Hey, Y/N, do you want a drink or something to eat?" Ashley asks me. I nod.
"Could I please have an orange juice?"
"Of course. And Josh, do you want a drink?"
"Nah, it's fine. But I would like a cookie."
"Any type of cookie?"
"Chocolate."
"That's the best type of cookie," I chuckle, nudging him.
"Very true, my love." Then a young woman and an older man appear in the living room.
"Y/N, hey. Lovely to meet you. I'm Abigail." The young woman, who looks almost exactly like Ashley, says to me.
"H-hey, it's lovely to meet you too." We both hug, then she sits down next to Jordan.
"Hello, Y/N, I'm Josh's dad, Bill," says the man, shaking my hand.
"Hi, Bill." He sits down in an arm chair.
"Hey, folks, here's your food," Ashley says, handing Josh a chocolate cookie and hands me my orange juice.
"Um, excuse me, do you know if you keep any straws?" I ask.
"Yeah, I think we do. Let me have a look," Laura says, getting up and going into the kitchen. She returns with a black plastic straw, and hands it to me.
"Thanks." I put the straw in my drink, and take a sip; it's delicious.
"How did you meet?" Abigail asks me. I smile and explain about how me and Josh met on holiday through my ex-boyfriend.
"That's slightly awkward," Jordan chuckles. Josh nods, eating his chocolate cookie.
"But, hey, at least I met my true love." He hugs me. I then explain how I love writing stories, and writing. Ashley shows me some poems she's written.
"They're awesome," I grin. I show her my favourite piece of artwork, which is a double page. On the right side of the page has the right side of my body, and on the left side of the page has the left side of my personified insecurities, with the lyrics to Goner covering the rest of the page.
"You done this?" Jordan asks me. I nod.
"It's sick as frick," Josh says, smiling proudly at me.
"You're amazingly talented," Bill says. I blush.
"Thanks."
"So you've got a character that represents your insecurities as well?" Laura says to me.
"Yeah. Except he doesn't have such a cool name." I explain how I came to think of him. "I even wrote a novella about him and how I defeat him. It's very helpful."
"I'd love to read it," Abigail says.
"I'll email it to you, and you can print it out."
"Deal."
Much later that night, when Josh and I are cuddled up in bed, he kisses me.
"Dude, you did brilliantly today. They really like you."
"I like them too. They're awesome."
"Goodnight, my love," Josh says to me, lying on his stomach, his arm wrapped around my waist.
"Night, night, Jish," I yawn, falling asleep in my lover's embrace.
