At school today was a seniors-only event. The Rise. It was the name of a makeshift talent show where every single senior in our school had to sing or rap or do something with their voice on stage. Apparently, it originated to encourage strong voices and a lasting memory as seniors of the school. Frankly, I thought it was stupid, because some people had social anxiety or didn't have much to mark on this school. Another thing that wasn't fair was why the hell the school forced students to do all of this in the first place.

All the seniors were on the football field, some on the bleachers preparing for their performances. I stood at the center of the field since I was the first to perform— decided by the principal. I tried not to roll my eyes at the utter uselessness of this school tradition. Why the hell did I come to school..? I should've just stayed home. I was holding a microphone, trying not to crush the contraption in my hand.

How does this thing even work..?

As if he had heard me, someone behind me replied, "Speak into it and the wire attached at the end of the microphone will transfer your voice through the speakers, which will amplify your voice."

I turned around and saw Tristan staring down at me. My jaw clenched, and I couldn't help but feel as if the day just got worse. "Geez," I muttered in annoyance. I turned back around and examined the microphone, adding sarcastically, "Do you have mind-reading as well?"

I rolled my eyes and threw the microphone on the floor, letting the speakers screech. It didn't bother me much, kudos to the music attribute, but the screeching sound made everyone's ears bleed. The world began to blur a little, with everyone around me slowly fading. I peered back at Tristan, seeing that his hands were glowing a green color. Again, he was using his attribute of time to slow it down. Sighing heavily, I sat myself down on one of the speakers.

Don't tell me he's going to give me another stupid lecture.

"As the one and only person of music in our entire world," he said, staring at me, "don't you think letting everyone hear at least one song would be fair?" My heart began beating quickly when he strolled up to me, but I didn't make any effort to move. He put his hands on either side of my figure, leaning over to me. I tried to remain emotionless at the close proximity between us. He's.. too close. Again. "It's rumored to sound magical."

The way he said 'magical' left me a quiet. I turned to look at the crowd, averting my gaze from him. The people were slowly trying to cover their ears from the ongoing screech of the outside world. I shrugged softly, glancing at Tristan with a sharp stare. His eyes twinkled back blankly.

"Then again, is it in your position to tell me what and what not to do?" I fired back, lurching forward slightly.

Tristan leaned over just a little more, almost challenging me, and I couldn't help but inhale sharply at his gleaming eyes. "I'm just suggesting it to you as an idea."

"And I don't agree with this so-called idea of yours," I retorted quickly. I jumped off the speaker, pushing his arm away so that I could move. Quietly, I stepped down the stairs of the stage on the field. "I suggest you put time back in its place..." I glanced over my shoulder at him, and my grey eyes pierced into his head as I finished in a hostile tone, "...or else I'll kill you before myself."

He obeyed, though I was aware that it wasn't out of fear. Once time was back in its place, I could feel the others's gazes watching me silently as I walked off the stage. I disappeared onto a cloud and sat above the others, my arms crossed. School staff muttered amongst themselves, deciding to not start a predicament with me.

They may look disappointed that I'm not singing, but I don't need people's approval to make myself feel content.
