Chapter 12: Not-So-Rapunzel-Like

"If I'm right, then William most likely got his payment by today," Leo said.

All three of us were sat down on the floor of my room. We decided to discuss the dilemma, especially with time ticking by the second. Of course, Tristan could have used his time attribute to stop all of time, but distorting the time balance right now, when it was night, would be a problem. Note that he would have to pause ALL time to make sure nothing happened out of his radius instead of slowing it down. Pausing time would require pausing the time in this entire universe. Slowing down time only required a small portion of Earth.

"That means they still haven't found me," I mumbled, hugging one of my pillows, "but then again, they could have spies lurking around as well." I bit into my ice cream cone, trying to think straight. "I still don't know what kind of 'princess' I am. Royalty hasn't lasted since a few centuries ago. And that was a long while."

"That's true," Tristan muttered.

Leo was tapping on his laptop, which he brought with him in his backpack. I looked over at the hunched over blonde and asked, "Are you sure your parents wouldn't mind you staying here?"

He nodded, "They're probably busy with work anyways. By the time they come home, I'll be at school or asleep, so they won't bother me."

Though he said it so confidently, I heard the dread and sadness behind his voice. I gave Tristan a solemn look, and he just shrugged. After a few hours until midnight, I decided that we should sleep. Even though the information was still bubbling beneath my skin, we needed to have our lives as a top priority on the list.

It was weird to think that there would be two teenage boys in my room, sleeping on either side of my bed on the floor. Starting off with no friends, it would definitely be a change for my social life. Think of it as a sleepover, I guess... I sighed and pulled the covers over myself, shielding myself from the cold I was so used to.

"Good night, you guys.." I mumbled quietly.

"Night."

I closed my eyes, and for a second, I felt sleepy. It was perfect if I wanted to sleep, but my humming thoughts kept me awake. It was quiet. In fact, it was too quiet. Outside my window, I couldn't hear any crickets chirping, or possibly any cars for that matter. What the hell? I found it quite strange, but decided to ignore it for a while. That was, until I heard a voice at the back of my head. A chill ran down my spine from the sinister voice echoing.

"Join us, Cheryl Faun.." it chanted softly. "You are capable... Join us.."

My eyes snapped open immediately, and I sat up and turned on my lamp. Both Tristan and Leo pulled away from their blankets, tiredly waking up. "What the hell, Cheryl..?" Tristan groaned, putting his pillow on his face. He turned away from the light, trying to sleep once again.

"You guys didn't hear that?" I asked, looking down at them.

Leo shook his head, looking at me with a raised eyebrow. "You alright? I didn't hear anything."

My grip on the blankets tightened. I definitely didn't imagine it. I don't imagine things as creepy as that. I was about to say something, until someone interrupted me. Tristan suddenly snapped, as if he woke up from a dream. He sat up straight abruptly and looked towards me.

"You heard a voice?" I nodded, and he stood onto his feet, showing off his sweatpants dotted with wolf heads. What a dork. "Maybe we should stay alert then. If you heard a voice, I'm not sure I want to see your bed empty in the morning."

"He's right.." Leo muttered. He grabbed his laptop from underneath his pillow. What the absolute fuck? "Maybe I should add security cameras outside your windows too." He turned on his phone, scrolling through his platforms. He shook his head. "I already did. There's nothing."
