"Mom!" Tristan exclaims, trying to get his mother away from the food table.

Miss Tanner turns around, a beautiful pork bun stuffed into her face. She says something, but it's muffled by the bun. Quickly golfing down the delicious food, she walks over to the chair and sits down, her cheeks blushing with a smile.

"Please excuse me for that," she says, bowing her head a little, "I was getting a bit hungry."

"I see who Tristan gets that from," I reply, making Cheryl snicker as Tristan pouts. "First things first, you're okay with questions about your husband, correct?"

Miss Tanner sits up straight, her shoulders stretching out. "Yes. I've come to the decision to focus on the future instead of sleeping in the past." Her green eyes are bold as she speaks confidently.

"Well then, question one. Do you have any idea how the green eyes gene spread out through the family, considering the fact that green eyes only take up 2% of the human population?" I ask.

Miss Tanner sits back in the chair, putting her hand to her temple. She closes her eyes and begins to think deeply. "Hmm..." she hums to herself, "For starters, both my parents have green eyes. My grandpa didn't have any green eyes, but my grandmother did, so that must mean that on my side of the family, the females dominate the green eyes. My husband and his brother Jonas don't have green eyes, but their father does. On Tristan's father's side, their family has green eyes that skip generations, so it explains why Tristan's eyes are green, nevertheless a bold emerald green."

"Ooh," I say. Cheryl seems to be thinking of it as well. "That explains a lot. Next question: did you ever plan on having another child?"

"Oh, no," she replies. "Tristan was the only child his father and I ever planned on having."

I nod. "Is it because Tristan was special?"

Miss Tanner smiles. "In a way, yes."

I don't press on the matter and continue. "Well, what do you think of Cheryl?"

Cheryl stiffens visibly. Tristan chuckles a little at this as Miss Tanner's smile brightens. "Oh? When I first heard about her from Tristan, I was a little worried about his interest in her. She was trying to kill herself for heaven's sake! If Tristan had fallen for her and she died, I didn't want to see him broken. And then when I first saw her: ah, that's a different impression. She was.. absolutely brilliant. Though she was crying, you could feel the brave and strong aura around her. She practically radiated confidence. And I must say, when she cries, she doesn't look horrible at all."

"Was that really necessary?" Cheryl mumbles embarrassingly.

Tristan grins. "That's what I think too!"

Miss Tanner continues, "I was still very worried about her when Tristan was seemingly dead. She didn't eat a lot. She didn't speak at all. It scared me." Her smile belittles, and her gaze softens. "When Tristan came back, her eyes.. they sparkled again. The light of life flashed back. Her smile had meaning. Her words were brimming with happiness. It was like she was.. struck back alive." My eyes widen when I see the tears in the corners of Miss Tanner's eyes. She looks up and smiles once more. "Cheryl is truly a strong woman. I wish I was half as strong as her when my lover died."

"M-Miss Tanner!" Cheryl suddenly shouts. We look over at her. Her arms are huddled to her sides, and tears are welling in her eyes. "D-Don't say that! I wasn't strong at all!" She wipes away her tears harshly.

Miss Tanner smiles softly. "You weren't? Then explain to me why you're still standing?" Cheryl pauses and stops. Tristan hugs her tightly, embracing her.

"That's all the questions I have for you," I say, a smile on my face. "Sorry for such a short amount of questions."

"Thank you for having us here," Miss Tanner replies.

She stands up and helps Cheryl and Tristan out the doors as Cheryl cries.
